I live in Spain and desperately miss good old British bangers. Does anyone know of a website who will send them out to Spain?

Need to get a huge rib of beef for an ATW and I'm finding it hard to get the right cut.....I believe it's costilla de la carne de vacca in Spanish. My plans for Xmas dinner may have to change

Sue you're an angel! We went to Fuengirola on Monday and bought loads of sausages and pies from Big Willies (he was really surprised to hear how I found out about him)and had a glorious time in the Euromarket. Got all the spices and sauces I had been looking for. This will be a regular trip from now on. And the dog had great fun in the sea. Please tell me details of the Xmas lunch? Thanks again Prue

Hi Sue,
Ta for the oil, sounds like it is a lovely oil. If you want me to I can pick it up from your office. I am helping a friend with his Christmas rush and working in Benalmadena Pueblo two days a week.
It will be lovely to meet you Prue. Our group seems to grow bigger every time we meet. I am bringing two friends this time - brought one friend for the last meeting. Hope you'll enjoy your shopping in Fuengirola.

Best parking in Fuengirola is the new underground car park beneath the main church square, this is on the main shopping street and runs parallel to the sea front, this will do for the sausage shop and market but you will have to drive to the chinese supermarket (unless you like walking) and you will definitely have to drive to Euromarket. Hi Sue, thanks that is fantastic. Just one thing, where is the best place to park? I´ve never been before and have only a coastal road map so far. I will try to find a more detailed map somewhere on the internet. My pet techy is coming to fix up my new printer in an hour. A decent tip for sorting out Telefonica and he´s been bought! Speak to you soon Prue

Hi Prue.....of course it was an invite, we'd love to meet you.Sausage shop is called Big Willies (open 10-6) and is just off the main church square in Fuengirola, stand in the square with your back to the church go diagonally to the lane on the bottom right corner, just a few yards along this lane you will find the main post office, walk around the back of the post office and the shop is down this back lane on the left. Moroccan shop is in the Mercado Central which is just off the same roundabout as the train station,Renfe in Spanish, go well before 1.30pm, as you go into the market take the escalator to the 1st floor, as you come off the escalator the best spice shop in town is more or less just in front of you on a corner site, the moroccan shop is directly behind this in the corner of the market. The black olives are wonderful but don't buy the spicy green olives they are so hot they are inedible, the harissa paste is good and so are the preserved lemons they also sell the best fresh mint and coriander (menta and cilantro in Spanish). The chinese supermarket(open Spanish hours) is on the main street between the Policia locale and Policia nacional stations. Euromarket (open 9.30-9.30) is not in Fuengirola itself but just on the outskirts,it's just off the Avenida de Mijas near the Ford main dealer Victoria Motors, this street starts in Fuengirola and leads you out passing under the N340 dual carriageway, at the roundabout directly under the road you do left and it's just a few yards further on the right, check out the deli counter for the danish bacon and english cheese, fruit and veg dept have many different salad leaves and they sell parsnips and shallots. Have I covered everything ?? Sue

Hi Sue, if that´s an invite I only work Saturdays at the moment as the hotel is quiet. But I would like to know where the sausage, Euromarket, chinese and moroccan shops are. Hubby and I are planning a trip early next week. Kids in a sweet shop. Thanks Prue

Hi Prue is there anything else you need to know eg where shops are situated etc and which shop sells what you need.
Pity you couldn't make it down on friday 10th Dec as a few of us are having our UKtv Food (Costa del Sol branch) Christmas lunch. Sue

Thanks ever so much, all of you. I shall definately take a trip to Fuengirola, next week in fact. Even though we´ve been here almost a year, we know very little about the surrounding area, we lived in the mountains in Montejaque until we bought this house in Ronda. I´ve been at college all summer trying to learn Spanish and now work part time in a local hotel. It hasn´t left much time for exploring especially as we have a German Shepherd in tow.
Looking forward to a shopping trip, Prue

Thanks for that Kamila, saw the old man who does the olive oil in the village last week and he has some in his cellar so will get you a 5ltr flagon and bring it with me to the Christmas lunch, it's not extra-virgin it just says virgin olive oil on the label but it's very green, very lemony, very peppery and very, very good. Sue

Hi Sue,
Been to Makro last night and I am afraid that they didn't have pecorino cheese. I will keep my eyes open and will let you know if I see one somewhere. 10th Dec. is marked in my diary, looking forward to it.
Tue 16 Nov 2004, 3.46AM
oh Prue - you live in Ronda - I love it there! Got a bit of a panic on looking down from the bridge though! Took mum and dad (in their 70s) abroad for the first time a couple of years ago and stayed in Marbella and went for a day trip to Ronda - winding mountain roads made mum feel sick
but once there we had a lovely meal and long walk. You are sooooo lucky! Been back since - great place.
Sue is right (well obviously you know you're not too far from her) but there are loads of shops selling British stuff - go for it!

Many thanks Kamila, don't forget our Christmas lunch on the 10th. Sue
Mon 15 Nov 2004, 4.28PM
Hi Prue,
There is an English butcher in Bena Vista which is near San Pedro if you don't want to travel to Fuengirola. I don't know of any butcher in Malaga who would sell British Bangers.
Sue,
I will check out Makro in Malaga for Pecorino cheese when I am there next. They have a good variety of foreign cheeses.

Hi Prue....you're not too far away from us on the coast. Why not have a trip down to Fuengirola one day and visit all the shops that sell British foods. Just off the main church square, behind the post office is an English sausage shop called 'Big Willies' They make traditional bangers in about 20 different flavours eg cumberland, lincolnshire, sage and onion, pork and leek etc they also have British black pudding and a whole host of other things. We also have Euromarket, a huge supermarket that sells a big range of UK goods eg dairy cream, clotted cream, lurpak butter, danish bacon, lots of cheese etc, then of course we have our own version of Iceland, called Islandia. We also have specialist shops for moroccan, scandinavian, chinese and german products. Unfortunately I've never found an Italian deli or a supplier for pecorino cheese but I'm still looking.Sue

Sue, thanks a lot. I live in Ronda which is about 1 1/2 hours drive from Malaga although I have never been shopping there. Will I find them in the supermarket or specialist shops? Our Hipersol is quite good with a few imported items. I try to use Spanish whenever but we do miss the bangers.
