My mum sometimes makes strawberry vodka by putting sugar and british strawberry in the fridge together so the sugar dissolves and your left with a kind of strawberry sauce then she puts in the vodka with a slice of lime delicious!!

This is the bets black vodka in the world (maybe the only one!)

Our local bar does "Manhatten at Midnight" which is the standard manhatten but with Black vodka.

There is a vodka which is black. Not the black label one but it is black. My daughter was asked to a Market Research to taste it two years ago. I don't know where you can get it though.

Christopher As far as I know vodka is graded into red Black and blue, depending on the alcohol content. The labels on the bottles are normally yes, youv'e guessed it, red black or blue. I know Smirnoff do this. I can get black vodka at my local off licence, so maybe you will have to shop around...

I found a recipe on this site a few days ago which called "black vodka". When I asked about this in Threshers yesterday the only thing I received was a black look. Any ideas.

Will have to try the skittles one. I make jelly baby vodka, with a standard bottle of vodka (bit removed - chefs treat) and about two bags of jelly babies. And now this is a trick i learnt from a chalet girl I was skiing with. Wrap it in two tea towels and pop it in the dishwasher. The heat helps to dissolve the jelly babies. Wonderful! Also this will set if you leave it in the fridge!!! Keep thinking I will pour it into an icecube tray and let it set, but there is never enough left!

I like to mix my vodka with peach snaps, dry martini, pieapple juice, chopped apples and pears or any other fruit you fancy loads of ice in a big jug or bowl the bigger the better. It goes down a treat just like drinking fruit cocktail, but remember iT still packs a PUNCH!!!

Vodka and anything sounds good but one of my favourites for a hot day is pink grapefruit juice and lots of ice.

Was looking through a couple of my cook books last night & found some more recipes for vodka. In Chantal Coady's fab book, Real Chocolate, there's one for chocolate vodka:-
1 bottle (700ml) of vodka
140g real dark chocolate, grated or pulverised.

Make the chocolate vodka by melting the chocolate & pouring into the bottle (you may have to drink a little to make some room), resealing & shaking vigorously.

That's DEFINITELY one for me!! The wondrous Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall has recipies for rhubarb flavoured vodka in his stunning book, The River Cottage Year: rhubarb vodkatini & rhubarb mule. Both sound delicious. If I don't post over the next few days, you know I've gone & made....& drunk.....the lot!!!! :p

Whenever I go home to Aberystwyth & am out with my friends on a Saturday night, they know that I just HAVE to pop in to The Pier Hotel Bar to savour 1 or 6 of their Jellybaby Vodkas!!! They usually have the red colour & green colour ones available. Not sure how they make 'em though. I assume you just bung the Jellybabies in & leave them, shaking every now & then. It's glorious with a dash of lemonade. When I move back home in August, I think I know where my 'local' will be!!! Hic! Wink

I've tried the skittles one and Viki is right it is delicious! I have to say the best I've had is Mint aero vodka... You need a 70cl bottle of vodka, tip a bit out then break the biggest mint aero bar you can find up and add that. Looks revolting and you need to leave it for a while shaking every time you walk past so the little bits break down. Boozy minty choc in a glass.......heaven!

star anise, fennel, dill (woodwards gripe water !!)lithuanian spicy, apple(well just about any fruit except bananas) coffee beans ,etc you could also use brandy and rum as well.
the star anise and dill was my latest experiment (just make a small amount in a babies food jar if you want to experiment and then you are not wasting much (well none actually!!!) the lithuanian one is a good one for the winter and if made now will be well brewed for chrimbo!

One of our favourite vodka 'recipes' simply involves skittles. It's so delicious, but very sweet, so mix with lemonade for that perfect finish. Take a medium ( or large) bottle of vodka, and several bags of skittles. Discard all of the green ones, and then pour the rest in. It takes about maybe 4/5 bags for the standard large bottles. VERY IMPORTANT: Make sure no green skittles are accidentally included, they can make your vodka go a murky brown color!! enjoy!

Have you tried a vodka melon, jamie oliver recipe, you make a hole in the top of the melon and pour vodka in slowly over a couple of days, then serve it as a starter, really gets the dinner party going!! Make sure you only serve it to non drivers though Louise x
