I seem to spend half my life on a diet (apart from today as have just scoffed macaroni cheese - yum! - possibly why I'm always on diet!?!?)Anway, as a result of said (or should that be sad?) diets I seem to be a walking encyclopedia on fat contents. Have a look at the contents on the olive oil spreads as they tend to be lower in fat than normal margarine and butter but you can still use them for cooking which you cant with 'low-fat spreads'. Benecol from memory is also quite good but expensive.

Hi Dave, please, what went in Mystery Mince, sounds great! I.C.B is the same fat content as butter issnt it?Try to find a low fat version of that, cos all the low fat spreads I have tried have tasted like there was something missing in the end product.Good luck.Aya

Ok, the reason that i want to use I.C.B.I.N.B instead of butter is that it was on a "Safeways special" and therefore I have a few tubs in the fridge. Also, My wife is into lower fat intake and real butter is apparantly akin to a "mortal sin" lol. Also, like some of you, It was all i had in the fridge. (Some of my own great "creations" have come about for this reason , including "Mistery Mince")

I created my own gooy chockolate cake the other day using I.C.B etc and it turned out very nice. So, can anyone suggest a very or fairlt LOW FAT alternative to butter ?>

Hi Dave, I don't see why you couldn't use it. At the end of the day it all comes down to improvisation (dunno about the spelling).

Cant beat real butter, but depends on the recipe, like Aya says, if that is all you have at the time, then it will be fine.

I use Clover or Tescos baking margarine for all my baking and I've not heard any complaints yet!

I would personally use proper butter but the product you mentioned is a lot better than using margarine. Which I personally can't stand.

Yes,Dave you can, well I do and things seem to turn out ok.Why do you want to use that instead of butter?I did cos I wanted to cook and that was all there was.

Personally I would only use organic butter and definitely nothing that has 'hydrogenated fats' listed in the ingredients - hope this helps. Marianne (Middlesex)
