maz 501 - What has appearing presentable got to do with got to do with having a profound, universal knowledge of food? Have you read TPB's book 'The Year of Eating Dangerously?'

TPB may not be the most suave presenter, like MF but his nails are clean and he certainly makes up for lack of sartorial elegance with his PASSION for food! Do you actually listen to what he says ....?

In reality I think TPB has been more assertive since the summer break. Though always the gentleman, he now defends his opinions vigorously with co-presenters.

Regarding his father being a military man; have you not heard of the psychological theory of traits missing a generation?

Incidentally, TPB distressed denin jacket is probably deliberately made so by a designer and thus cost a fortune!

Must dash my corsets need adjusting before afternoon tea!

Could you please tell me why you have areally scruffy presenter on market kitchen. The other night Tom Parker Bowles looked as if he had got a boiler suit jacket on. He never looks smart. You would'nt think his father was a military man.
Yours Robert

Well done Market Kitchen for having the courage to take that awful "Showdown" programme off. Matt to the rescue with Gourmet Guide that's better!
I know you will get round to it but where will the recipes be for GG?
Oh, and before the New Season of Market Kitchen starts, is it the 6th September, if we have to suffer more of Tom Parker Bowles.
Thanks again for binning the tripe!

I don't know what the problem is with MK showdown. The previous flagship show (name of which I forget, largely because I could bear the shouty presenter) also did compilation shows in the summer.

THe presentation isn't exactly dynamic, I'll grant you, and the format not especially inspiring, but then compilation shows always have that problem.

I am getting fed up of the presenters saying 'ah but I was in the studio and it was fantastic!' which comes across as smug beyond words, but the framework of the show isn't really important so much as the cooking segments.

It's good to see recipes that I was unable to watch earlier in the year or had forgotten about and wanted to try.

I do, however, find it ironic that a programme about seasonal/local food goes off air just when the majority of fruit and veg is ready for picking and comes back just after the main harvests have come in :-)

And can we have a blanket ban on Summer Pudding segments, please? Bread, berries, bosh. it's not even very nice....

Early morning rant over :-D Have a lovely day.

Hi there, Richard Corrigan totally wasted his chance in the Brekkie/Brunch competition. He's an Irish lad but then the difference between the South and the North is the South do Spuds for Breakfast but the North serve breads. How would anyone have voted for (bearing in mind that it's brunch after a late night slurping the best of irish hospitality!) a dish of best smoked middle cut bacon, juicy pork sausage, black/white pudding, grilled beef tomatoes & large field mushrooms, fried potato apple bread, fried fruit & wheaten soda bread and buttermilk pancakes. All of this could be tarted up in a designer cheffy fashion - I sometimes serve it in miniature portions but the taste is just the same - the point is that you are supposed to lie down and relax and feel better!!! Anyone agree?

I enjoy Market Kitchen but do not like MK showdown. Just because Amanda doesn't like offal was not the reason for marking the recipe down. Plenty of other people do. and as for eating blueberry pancakes for breakfast UUGGHH..........
just makes me want to heave. How about getting Joe Public in on the voting and see where that leads.

I had posted the following comment a few days ago but noticed it got removed, I've changed the comment about how the 'show was not expensive' to see if I have a chance of keeping this post!

Market kitchen showdown is the 'GoodFoodChannel' way of how to make it look like they are not showing repeats by showing repeats!

Cannot see the point of Market Kitchen Showdown. The judges don't even taste the recipes and the format of the show is a total bore!! I agree that Anjum is rather charmless and somewhat patronising - she should stick to cooking. I loved the show that Jenni Barnet presented - she was fun and extremely entertaining. Market Kitchen is just dull and rather worthy! Big Grin Brownie, North London.

Bit of an odd format, classic summer time filler but Charlie the butcher is great. Good rapport with Matthew Fort. I love his honest comments and passion for food. Has he been on the normal show? I'd like to see him on that. More Charlie less of the others!!! Sorry!!!!

PLEASE READ THIS DONT BE PUT OFF BY THE FACT IT IS LONG!!!First, judging without tasting is silly. Aarons avocado semi fredo looked lovely and probably worked really well. However, if you can't taste it, how can you be sure and knock points off?
Now regarding wardrobe issues for some female presenters,Amanda cover up pease, there is far too much cleavage on display,Dont forget this is a family show. And finally I think that ANJUM ANAND has some very contradictory opinions. We all know that one of the most simple dishes to make is a pasta. When Aaron made one, she said it was too complicated. WRONG!!After all, many of her dishes are far more complex than that, using a variety of spices. I do not blame her for the complexity of her dishes, seeing that Indian and Pakistani dishes are complex, but a pasta is pips next to her usual style of cooking. And I wish she would stop trying to sound so healthy and cool - knocking down points for no salad! Don't try to be something you're not! The show would be far better off without her and her sickly pout!
P.S - go easy on the botox, love! Big Grin

Hi Allsorts, the links are not working but if you put the curry name in the search then it will come up with that curry recipe. I have tried the first one - Chicken tikka masala and found it. Have a look [link]

Where are the curry recipes from Monday Night? I didn't dream it did I?
Ny the way, I agree with the naffness of the programme - talk about fix!
I look to see what the subject is and if it is of interest which means 9 times out of 10 I watch something else. However, the one I DID watch and want the recipes for - e.g. curry - has disappeared into the ether!

I want to know what Brian Turner did with the baked beans. Also, why was Jenny and Good Food Live ever taken off the air? Surely that was the flagship programme on what was UKTVfood?

Bring back Jenny!

Repeat TV of course, but I wouldn't mind if it wasn't so apparent that the 'judges' hadn't actually tasted the food

Showdown it should be Shutdown. Why oh why are you persisting with this dire programme how much longer has it to run? I am loosing the will to live. The judges must be desperate or is it part of their contract to appear on this rubbish. "How shall we score that one?" "a big fat "0" This is an insult to your regular audience.

I don't get the premise of the show. The judges are not able to properly judge because they too are watching a video - they don't get to taste the finished dishes. I have to say I can't watch this show at all.

I liked the young butcher .... he seems to know his stuff and doesn't want to simply promote himself or boost his own ego like some of the other judges. Lets have him and others like him on again.

How the hell can Amy be a judge when she wasnt even willing to taste the food that the Hairy Bikers made, surely her views or votes cannot be objective if she wont even taste the food.
I personally think that it stinks that they were marked down because she wont eat the food.
I think Market Kitchen should get rid of her and find a new judge who will taste the food and be more objective.

I assume she wouldnt taste it because she has had kidneys in the past and didnt like the way it was cooked, I am a beekeeper and have just managed to persuade 4 people who dont like honey that it doesnt all taste the same by getting them to taste fresh honey from my own bees, but if Amy wont even try a new recipe because of preconceived ideas then she doesnt even deserve to be on the program.

We all know this is economic space filler I too agree the judges are not really suitable that poor young man looked quite uncomfortable and the woman we...ll judge for yourself reminds me of someone now who could that be I just hope she does not attempt to slap Matt..... Develish

I tried watching but how can that American women possibly be qualified to judge something Raymond God Blanc makes that loverly soup he made, and Januka wots his name made a Guspache soup with melons,it looked loverly, my point why those two people to judge various dishes made by the cooks/chefs on the program, why not have public taste testers in to judge if they are good dishes for summer or better still have public testers try out the recipes for easy to follow?
