Where have all the supporters gone i.e.Roxy

Thread Starter: Old Thatch    Started: Mon 10 Nov 2008    Replies: 28

I don't have UKTV food so used to love reading all the messages from the stalwarts/dependables like Roxy and all the others. Where have you all gone?
This site is really not the same without you all.
Am I missing something?

Hi Mary,

Nice to hear from you, assume you are still warm and tanned in OZ. It must be hell out there with all that seafood and sun and barbies and tinnies and, no must stop this. I am very jealous.

My Niece has one more year to go at UNI in Sydney, we hope to go for her graduation, I can hardly wait.

It would be nice to hear from you about your cooking, even if we cannot be 'live' anymore.

Best of Luck and a very Happy Christmas to you.

Anyone remember Vash? I'm in regular contact with her, in fact, hoping her and OH will be coming up for another weekend soon.

Nice to hear from you again Mary - albeit to have a quick chat. At least we know that all is well with you. Do you remember me? I was going to Australia on holiday from South Africa to see my step son in Sydney a few years ago and we chatted briefly about it. Keep well and happy cooking!
Now we just have to see what happened to Victoria123? She was from the UK but living here in SA. Pop in again if you get the chance V123!

It wasn't so much a "live" chat, just something called Off The Menu where people could talk about anything, we used to have virtual parties and do all sorts of silly stuff and the boards were open 24/7 so people all around the world could post anytime they liked and not have to wait for ages to see their post show up.

Well Mary and Terry have posted, I talked to Tina on the phone last week and also sent her the link to to this. Not so sure Tina will come back, she has moved on but she and her family are well.

Anyone heard from Fudges Mum recently?
Or Frexy?
I still mss Gary with his quirky humour, oh boy did we have some fun.
Lizzie went back to Gilbralta the last I heard.
Jennifer?
Even Livewire seems to have stopped recently.
Mark won't come back, but still in contact with him too.

So many others who used to post good recipe and food advice as well as having fun. I do so miss those times.

Hiya Mary and others - nice to "see" you all again. Is Tina still about? Haven't heard from her in a while either. It'd be nice to get some of the older posters (again, as said by Mary, not old as in age LOL) to share knowledge, etc, with newer posters.

Alc - there really was a sense of community on here and everyone would kind of keep an eye out and if you didn't "see" someone for a few days then someone would get in contact to make sure they were alright - and we used to share some right good laughs too - as well as the odd spat granted.

Anyway, season's greetings to all, peace be with you and hope to catch up soon.

I have only been posting on this board for a year, but after reading this thread i wish i had found this site sooner.
It seems like a real community was built on here which i definitely think is lacking now.
Maybe if there was a 'live' chat area again more people would join and post,

Hello old friends (and I don't mean old in the age sense so don't be offended). I never check the message boards any more though I still use the site for recipes.

I came back because Rosti told me about this thread. It is so true that the fun went out of this place at some point and, living on the other side of the world, I can't post 'live' so to speak.

Cooking is still my passion and I am getting more and more creative in the kitchen. It's very exciting and if this forum was as spontaneous and friendly as it used to be I would be sharing my experiments.

I do miss it.

Wishes can come true TerryDox, as David said. I wonder ......

Well done Old Thatch for the idea!

Personally, I have never felt unsafe on these boards, but have to say I have not heard much friendly chat over the last year or so. Maybe it is my age?

My answer to your original question is 'Probably'! But, what is missing is hard to define.

Oh Goody, perhaps then someone will answer my pathetic questions. I am really glad that I started this link. TerryDox is right, a sense of belonging which enables us to knock ideas back and forth and ask questions that we even sometimes already really know the answer to in a safe and friendly environment.

One of the main reasons is that the fun has gone out of the boards. One of the most important things about boards such as these is the sense of belonging. Ok there was always some spats but they normally got sorted especially when Ian was moderating. Apologies for those who don't know who Ian is/was. I can honestly say that some of what was said during this time was hilarious - unfortunately all deleted now...

In those days we could post all through the night - and did - but a few posters eventually spoiled this with loads of daft games. I even got banned for while because I boiled over about this. It was at this point that the curfew overnight began.

I still feel that this could be what it once was - a goldmine of information of advice and friendship and would welcome a return to those days and to the best food board ever - I wish

Hi Rosti, You quoted the above - so why do the above 3 not post anymore? Especially Mary and Tina!

I also have stopped looking at the site quite so much - I find the grey background of the web site rather drab and uninteresting why did it change? It certainly puts me off it used to be so bright and cheerful - kindest regards to all Leasley 51

Hi Guys,

Nice to be remembered, I do pop in now and again but as others have said, this site just isn't the place it used to be.

I have also been a bit busy falling in love and my man moving into my home. Well, how could he resist once I started cooking for him !! Big Grin

I don't really post elsewhere either, but still talk to Mary, TerryDox and a couple of others. I also emailed Tina recently.

Take care all Hug

Of course I mean Rosti (too many senior moments) and of course I remember your kind words Mrs Woof Woof. How are you?
I am really pleased that we now have Market Kitchen daily on BBC2.
I was sad when Hugh F-W Autumn series finished and am going to cure my own pork a la HF-W for Xmas. A first for me
