Where can I buy orzo in UK?

Thread Starter: lozlg    Started: Sun 18 May 2008    Replies: 10

I want to try Giada De Laurentiis's creamy orzo recipe. Can't seem to find orzo anywhere? I'm starting to think it might be called something different over here? Any ideas? Thanks

You can buy orzo pasta online from the glorious Wally's Deli. It costs £1.95 for a 500g packet. [link]

Tvfoodie-is that Orzo you're talking about?
I never thought it could be used it in soups
I tried using plain elbow macaroni in my minestrone once and the texture was awful

Our Tescos has it as well as Wiatrose in the international food section next to Kosher.

I use it in minestrone as it stays pretty intact even after a couple days of reheating!

Again this soup pasta is really only available at Italian Shops, or maybe a deli might stock it. You can get all different shapes, little stars, little rice shapes all for soups. Italian mums give their babies this in chicken shoups. Its called pastina, and different shapes, have their own names. I often go to my Italian Grocers out of town, as we do not have one in Brighton! Speaking of special pasta shapes-
I'm looking for a certain soup pasta- it looks like tiny rings and you can find it in shop-bought minestrone sometimes
I'm not sure what's it called
Has anyone seen it in UK shops?

Tesco and Asda (well, the Asda near my home) sell the Cypriot make, which is much cheaper than the Italian make.
You can find it in the "World food" section where you can find some other varieties of small pasta that might be suitable

Italian shops, delis or try Taj shops they have their own arabic one. They call it something else, but they will probably help you. Delis call it orzo and Italian delis do too. Good luck, I call it baby food, but its like barley.
