Cleaning Le Creuset Dish

Thread Starter: AlexP    Started: Fri 14 Sep 2007    Replies: 9

For the 1st time ever I have had food stick badly to my le creuset casserole. I have soaked it but can't shift the baked on food. I am reluctant to scour it but dont know what else to try.

Dried on food normally wipes off very easily from le creuset so I dont know what happened this time. I should be grateful for suggestions of how to clean it without causing any damage.

I put 1 tablet of Persil washing powder into cold water and leave overnight. Perfect results every time- with no signs of damage to the pot at all.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have tried the boiling and steaming method several times and finally the dish is clean but without damage.

It was really baked on hard but the slow cooked bolognaise sauce which I made was delicious!

I have never had a problem cleaning my Le Creuset but I agree with the hot water or steaming - NO dishwasher, NO scouring. Bicarb might be worth trying as Snowlight suggests. Bicarb seems to do lots of useful things and will not harm your pans.

Oooo, I wouldn't advise running creuset through the dishwasher as they are enamel. The compounds in dishwashing powder are extremely potent and will eventually dull the enamel by creating microscopic pitting. This, in turn, will cause food to stick more and more. The little brochure that comes with your Le Creuset explains this in more detail.

The best advice is above, bring water to a boil and gently wipe with a long handled brush until the substance loosens.

Never scour!

Have you tried filling the pot with water and just bring it to a rapid boil? Then gently run a sink brush around the edges. That has always worked a treat for me, especially when I've had a couple "leave the burner on" disasters!

In very tough circumstances one teaspoon of dishwashin powder (yes I know!) placed into the boiling water fix it up FAST!

Thanks

I will give that a try.

Try steaming it - put it over a pan of water upside down, as if it was a lid, and let it steam away for 30 minutes or so. Use a ring of rolled up foil to close any gaps if you can't find a pan that is a good fit.

I have used this method to clean off woks and cast iron pans, and it's quite powerful.
