Restaurants in Lincolnshire

Thread Starter: Porridge    Started: Wed 05 Sep 2007    Replies: 4

We are debating relocating to Lincolnshire or surrounding areas, is anybody on here from around there. I would just like to know where the best places are for good shops, restaurants and business (for hopefully getting a job) - we are currently thinking about Lincoln, Grantham, Sleaford and Newark - any ideas anybody.
Thanks an anvance

Hi Porridge,
Public transport's pretty good actually, there is a railway station in the village with a (limited) service to both Nottingham and Grantham; peak time is catered for but there's not a great deal in between. Grantham to London can be done in just under an hour too if you pick the right service. Busses are similar.

As for jobs, I really couldn't say as I have a fairly big commute. My industry sector (IT) isn't represented at all locally. Have a look on Monster.co.uk or Jobsearch.co.uk for more info.

One thing I did forget to mention is that Melton Mowbray (home of the pie) is also just down the road. It is host to a rather excellent food festival towards the tail end of the year.

Thanks for that Freddy - sounds a great village - I can see why you wouldn't need to travel for anything else, what's it like for public transport and jobs in the vicinity?

We live in Bottesford, due south of Newark and due east of Grantham. Right on the borders of Notts, Leics and Lincs.

Having moved from Nottingham three years ago with our young family, one of our biggest worries was access to reasonable eateries. We shouldn't have worried, as living at the top end of the Vale of Belvoir we're surrounded by great food. Good market gardens, village pubs with honest fayre, gastro-pubs, restaurants, Farmers Markets etc. etc.

In our village alone, there's two really nice restaurants, three pubs (two serve food, the third is currently being refurbished to do so I believe) a proper butcher, green grocers, market garden and a deli. We are so very spoiled and have almost no need to venture into Grantham/Newark for supermarkets.

Grantham isn't that great for restaurants but Newark has quite a few, unfortunately, I can't comment on Lincoln.
