Quite agree with you Schmalz1, but I don't think they take any real notice of our complaints, or something would have been done by now. It's just tough on us. As you say MK has run it's course, and their little competitions with only about 18 people voting are not a true representation of what their viewers really think. Such a load of tosh on the best wine, beer etc.

Market Kitchen has run its course. The dullness level has become intolerable. Can we not get something with some real personality and LIFE onto the air? If not, how about scheduling some reruns of classic episodes of GFL!

Yes, I am and I suspect there are many others who share our feelings. However, I doubt anything will happen, Mkt Kchn is too well established and anyway Jenni is safely ensconced in her show at LBC Radio.
When she left I wrote to UKTV Food expressing my surprise and was told that they certainly did not want to lose such a good presenter. The rest is history

I have just stumbled across this blog !!! I was an avid viewer of GFL when Jenny Barnet hosted it. WHAT A PERSONALITY!!! Full of fun and a lot of the time at her own expense! A brilliant interviewer, drawing out all the information from the guest celeb. and making him/her feel that she was a best friend. I think she was brilliant and I'm amazed that the programme producers were so short sighted as to not recognise something special when they had it.
Whatever the cause of her quick dispatch from the programme (Which seemed to have been as much of a shock to Jenny as to the viewing population) I wish they would get their acts together and replace what to me is drab uninspired assortments of cooking programmes (with one or two exceptions) and BRING BACK JENNY BARNET!!!!! I couldn't agree more!!!! How many repeats of GR do we need to see? It would certainly be a welcome sight to see Great Food Live again!! Even in repeat form! To this day it is amazing they were able to pull off a **LIVE** cooking show five days a week. Imagine how hard that was to do. That's real production, direction and presentation talent!!

With all the complaints on this board about excessive repeats of programmes that we can now recite from memory, has anyone ever considered going to the vault and re-airing the five years of Great Food Live? That would be a breath of fresh air!

You Guys that dont like Jeni Barnett have said some really awful things - who do you think you are???

I think Jeni is a superb host, full of zest and wit. It doesnt matter that she isnt a food expert - in fact thats half the beauty of her approach. She talks from the layman viewer perspective and doesnt try to be a 'know-it-all'.

Totally agree with 'tickedoff'. BRING BACK JENI!! And all you rude people that dont like her - please dont bother commenting on this page! We need to see more sucessful, intelligent, witty and bubbly women on t.v - she always made me smile and I miss her! Wink

Girtie, truer words were never spoken. It is sad. Perhaps someday we'll be granted some reruns of GFL? Who knows!

Angry Yes I am sorry Good Food Live was taken off the air. Boring Market Kitchen is full of oversized ego chefs who do not cater for everyone needs not like GFL did. Best person on MK is Rachel Allen, down to earth and full of good ideas. Tom Parker Bowls is absolutely useless when it comes to cooking and not even a good presenter. Oh I feel so much better. JB is brilliant of LBC.97.3 what a shame you lost her!!

The fat one

What the devil are you playing at. I have persevered, seen MK go from bad to great, albeit slowly. Twice now I have turned over to another channel. Something I have never done before!!!

I do not want to waste my time watching basic tomato sauce and so-called gourmet meals and risotto competitions.

Pull your socks up! I do not want to leave now as you have a great team but lousy content.

One last observation, why do the presenters speak over the chefs? This sometimes offends the chefs and makes the whole programme very loose. They seem to be trying to get one up on the chefs by pre-empting them.

Please treat me like an adult. I can boil eggs and similar difficult culinary experiences.

Well, I'm sure all we could possibly pray for is to have repeats of some of the classic episodes in season 2 and 3. Those were absolutely terrific with Gino D'Acampo et al.

Perhaps they can find a slot in their schedule of fresh new programs to perhaps fit in an episode or two of GFL?????

Amen, everyone. Amen. To have those good ole days when I looked forward to coming home at night and watching GFL.

I also wish we could go back to the good old days with GFL and Jeni Barnet but it is not going to happen as she has a much better job now on LBC in the afternoons. She is excellent at it.She is very good at talking and empathising with people who call in. Bet she wouldn't want to come back even if she was asked!

Real Domestic Goddess

Who thought replacing GFL with Market kitchen was a good idea? Tom Parker Bowls v jenny Barnett...hmm JB wins everytime!

OysterMan

I don't think it is likely regardless of what host they were to get.

GFL must have been horrifically expensive to produce. Didn't Jeni always talk about a full rehearsal evey morning before they went live? That would mean those chefs would have to have cooked everything twice, they must have been there for HOURS preparing for the show. And there was usually two, sometimes three, chefs on any day.

And then to do it five times a week. Somehow, just don't think so.

Could it be possible that a new live daily food programme could ever be done again? Market Kitchen is just such an old idea, it's a copy of a thousand other programmes. GFL was entirely unique. That's why it was so great to watch.

Shazmatazz, not to worry it is only a few posters that wish to stifle free and open discussion. They don't seem to be able to tolerate others' views. The fact that they have to stoop to such silly things as the UKTVFood programme is no longer on the air shows their desperation.

Many, many still miss the lively and entertaining programme that GFL was and to the extent those feelings are aired perhaps a new show of similar calibre will be developed when MK crashes.

I think Good Food Live was a great program and Jenny was the right presenter for it,she and the program were very entertaining, but it did get boring at times .Market Kitchen is rightly different the presenters are not quite as good as Jenny is,but you go past them and watch the top chefs and information that comes on the program. Good Food live had as many viewers critics as Market Kitchen, this message board was full of things they liked and didn't like with it be ,Jenny , her clothes and the content, like chefs expressing personnel views when out and about ,so now its time to move on and fill this message board with your likes and dislikes of anything else on ukfood.

Mr. P

Well said Shazmatazz, agree completly, especially with the bring back the informative GFL & ever entertaining Ms. Barnett bit !

Shazmatazz

I find it interesting that in a thread that refers quite explicitly to the subject which people wish to discuss (i.e. Bring back Jenny Barnett & Good Food Live NOW!!!) we find people objecting to actually discussing said subject.
I also cannot understand how the people objecting to this thread on the grounds that Ms. Barnett was loud and unruly fail to realize that GFL was a TV show, these by definition are about using a concept to inform and entertain. Given the current broadcasting business, shows that only inform tend not to have many viewers which is why the entertainment factor is so crucial. Jeni was the entertainment; the banter and level of questioning she provided was necessary to not scare or alienate persons who were just beginning to learn about food or cooking.
For those of you who complain that she distracted from the purity of learning how to cook I suggest that perhaps you were looking for a more serious format.
I heartily agree with the thread...bring back GFL and if possible, bring back Ms. Barnett as well.

The actual title is What's on UKTV Food.
Not What was on UKTV Food nearly a year ago and what 0.0003% think about it.
End off, Good Night Vienna, it's gone, it's not coming back, it's history, it's over, finished etc. etc.
What part of that does not compute?

Thu 7 Feb 2008, 11.14AM

Mr. P

Surly the point of this board was to register how disappointed many were that GFL was taken off the screen, with the loss of Ms. Barnett.
Any unpleasantness came from the entrenched group with their ‘Thank God she has gone’ attitude and GFL is no great loss. This was bound to get a response from the band of fans for which the show, and its presenter, had a special place in the course of a days viewing. Everyone is undoubtedly free to express their view, but surly if individuals want to, basically, put forward such negative views about the show & presenter, they should have started their own thread, rather than crowing here, due to the fact their (misguided) view has been upheld (misguidedly) by the channel. The mere fact that so many people still talk of a show that was taken away a year ago must surely mean it is no where near room 101.
