totally agree with the above post
knives are such tactile things
we sell knives to every one from pro chefs to normal domestic cooks and everyone in between
go and try them first it may be that you dont need a full set either just 3 or 4 very good ones that you will use and get advice on how to sharpen them any reputable shop will show you how and what to use again this is down to personal preference
a few of the local chefs have selected knives from differnt ranges and i have to say i cant get to grips with global literally!
wustof are by far the biggest seller across europe and J O has put them in his fifteen restaurants for the trainees to use plus of course Gordon uses them too

i can recommend the shop where i work obviously as its won awards for service and does offer an online website but best of all you can ring them up and they will advise over the phone if it helps
you can google for Cooks and Kitchens UK as obviosly i cant put a link in to a site where i work
i really hope you find what you need and take your time to get the right thing they are a lifetime investment ad an awful lot of money if you get it wrong
best wishes

Best thing you could do is go to a cooks shop and try various knives in your hand and find the ones that suit you best, ( got that tip from Nick Nairn). I have used Global in the past as everybody raved about them but found they just didnt feel right in my hand and they needed sharpening a lot, did as Nick suggested and found that the Henkel knives were much better suited for me.

Oh and if you do go for Global knives make sure they are bought somewhere reputable, talking to the Global knives rep a little while ago and he was saying that there are a lot of counterfeit Global knives out there on places like Ebay.

Yes, deffinatly go for Globals, i`ve been using globals for about 7 years now and they have never let me down. They stay razor sharp on a steel but somtimes need a touch up on a whetstone. Just don`t wash them in a dishwasher. My wife kept doing this and one of them has broken at the hilt! Angry

Hi there,

They've been around for a bit but i've been using them at work and home for years - GLOBAL.

Also worth a look are the Wusthof Trident knives, they are a bit pricier but have a thicker weightier blade.

Nisbets are also a great company to deal with.
