Turkish Bread?

Thread Starter: ccurran    Started: Sun 24 Sep 2006    Replies: 5

Can anyone help with a recipe for Turkish Bread( I think this is the name) While on holiday in Bulgaria we had bread which was flat but puffed up and hollow in the middle. The top was crisp and had sesame seeds and a salty taste to it. If you could tell me the proper name and the recipe I would be very greatful Thank you Catherine Big Grin

ccurran - the bread you are referring to is called Lavash. They bring it to your table with dips in Turkey. You will find recipes for it on google.

Thanks for that Maureen, but the bread was about a foot and a bit long! It was cooked in the oven and it did puff up like a pitta but it did not have the same texture as one. The top was very crisp with as i said a salty top covered in sesame seeds Smile I can only say it was lovely.I should have asked when i was there but you know what its like never got around to it.
Thanks very much for your reply,Ill keep my fingers crossed for any more replies.
Thanks again

It sounds like the bread you're describing is similar to Pitta bread, which you can buy from most supermarkets. They come in white or wholemeal varieties, but don't tend to have seeds on them.
To cook, pop in the toaster for a few seconds till they puff up, or bake in the oven - again, just a very short time wil do, so keep a close eye on them to avoid them setting your smoke alarm off!
