Eye level grill gas cookers?

Thread Starter: sablebombe    Started: Thu 08 Jun 2006    Replies: 4

I need to buy a new cooker and I am thinking about the old style gas ovens with an eye level grill ........ does anyone still have these or a new one and would you recommend ????

if you are going for an investment, then I would recommend a fitted oven and hob, (if practical) with a double oven, as the smaller one at the top doubles as a grill if you leave the little door open. it is still eye level, and there is the added advantage of not having to bend right down to get food out of the main oven. I love mine, and don't think I could go back to a regular freestanding oven now. Big Grin

Thanks for your replies. Actually I totally forgot about the lack of space at the back and as I am forever using a griddle pan and a very large frypan at the same time I think it would be a problem. I guess I will have to have another wander around the shops! I don't want to get this wrong as it's money I can't really afford to throw away!

You also can't fit anything more than a single tier steamer on the rear hobs, however separate grills (eye level or otherwise) are handy as you can put your plates to warm, I now have a built in single oven and hob, so don't have a separate grill and really miss this use.

I really wouldn't recommend that you buy one. I went 'cooker shopping' with my mum a couple of years ago, and she wanted the old style kind that my nan had. It looks good, oven works, grill does the best toast in Portsmouth.....but you cannot stir anything on the rear hobs. I have gone around all the shops trying to find one where that didn't happen, but it seems to be a flaw with all of this style cooker. Sorry to be a downer on your plans, but they really are not pratical if you need to do a roast or something that uses all the hobs. Cry
