Flavouring mashed potatoes

Thread Starter: Stevecooks    Started: Sat 20 May 2006    Replies: 8

I am looking for ideas for flavouring mashed potatoes - to go with canon of lamb. I have a brilliant indian recipe for marsala mash but it too powerful for this dish. Steve

How about just having some chives through it.
Simple and quick to do.

Braces

Grate some nutmeg into your mash. It gives it a wonderfully perfumed taste.
OR
Substitute celeriac or parsnip for some of the potato.

For canon of lamb I would go for the mint or a lightly flavoured garlic mash with lots of butter and black pepper.

Fudge's Mum

How about adding some mint sauce/jelly to your mashed potatoes.
Depending on what I'm serving it with, sometimes I'll saute some spring onions in some olive oil, or even some finely chopped chilli and some finely chopped ginger ( again sauted in olive oil ) to the mash.
It's really yummy - and also it alows you to just serve just mash without everyone saying - Not mash again!!!

Hi Steve

How about keeping it simple? Wholegrain mustard stirred through the mash?
