Food Savers

Thread Starter: Lil'Abby    Started: Thu 13 Apr 2006    Replies: 13

I'm seriously considering investing in one of these. I've had a little search on the message boards as I remember there was a thread started and they'd been mentioned now and again, but I can only find a thread from 2004. I seem to recall Blondie talking about hers and how great they are (seems like a lifetime ago Frown ) but would welcome some up to date feedback.

There are quite a few on the market these days with quite a substantial price difference between them (although I've only seen them on telly and not in the shops).

Any information from 'users' about specific makes etc., would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Smile

I'm glad you found what you were looking for Lil'Abby, I might have to wait a while for mine because I have just bought a Bamix, which I have wanted for ages, but I will bear your recommendation in mind. Thank you for taking the time to keep me up to date.

Update. Smile I ended up ordering the one from QVC which is called the Food Saver 420 for just under £90 including P + P. It's fantastic and I highly recommend it (if a little pricey).

Thanks for reporting back Lil'Abby as you say I guess we both knew that you get what you pay for.

Meant to say that as far as I'm aware it's only the one from QVC that allows you to seal ordinary plastic bags. I'm not 100% sure though, I was told from someone who has one that they seal and reseal bread in its original bag.

Well Marie - I tried it tonight and it just doesn't do the job! Big Grin I think we both knew that didn't we?

The good thing is I can return it free of charge (they collect it) so I've only lost £3.95. The search continues... Smile

No I have been waiting for your verdict. Are you able to use ordinary plastic bags or do you have to order a roll, I didn't see the option to order more bags on the website.

Hi Marie. Well I have spoken to a few people and as you probably know the range of prices is massive. I was pointed in the direction of Tchibo's website. I know someone who has one of these and is happy with it, but the way I see it, if I need to 'bin it' and buy a more expensive model then I've lost hardly anything! Smile (If I flog it on ebay I won't have lost anything Wink )

Here's the web address.

I would be interested to know how you get on with it Lil'Abby. I have been thinking about investing in one as well. What kind have you ordered?

Thanks shelz. I've gone ahead and ordered one. Smile I'll let you know how I get on if anyone's interested.

I must admit to being quite surprised at the lack of responses to this thread - I thought loads of people would have them! Smile

I have a Food Saver and it is excellent. Years ago I had one of the originals by Pifco but the bags allowed air in eventually, defeating the object of having one!

When I first got the Food Saver, I used to re-use the bags, but I've reached the stage where life is too short and I simply buy a large roll and dispose of the bag once re-opened.

Food Savers really do what they say on the tin. Purchase a couple of permanent marker pens, so you can label things as you seal.
