Red Rooster Potatoes

Thread Starter: iwantone    Started: Sat 26 Nov 2005    Replies: 13

My husband bought some of these home on day and we loved them. I am unable to buy them anywhere other then Somerfield. Sainsbury's do Reds with no name or Desiree and so to Tesco. Any ideas of other supermarkets? Confused Smile

Hello Just Julie, well what they are is the best potato I have ever tasted. They are not prepared just beautiful red potatoes that roast to perfection, chip up great, or boil fluffy and creamy. I never knew that they sponsored programmes until I saw one sponsor on this programme. I first posted a request for some info on where to buy them as I can only get them in our local Somerfield. Some say thay they are in some Sainbury stores but they are not in ours. If you can get them then try and I bet you will never like different potatoes again. Cheeky

I buy these in Morrisons priced £1.19.
All the family love them and have now converted the father-in-law.

Thanks for the link Goodyera. I have read it and it is very interesting to know that Red Roosters originated in Ireland. When we need them we always buy in bulk bags as they do not supply them in small brown sacks like they used to do years ago with other potatoes. It's the same old story, find something you like and then have trouble buying it again!!!

Smile I have long been a great lover of Rooster potatoes since I first visited Ireland. I even used to take them back home to England because they just weren't available in England then. I now live in Ireland and Roosters are still my favourite potato for every purpose. I'm very glad that they are now on sale in England and my two daughters are too.
