Prawns

Bought some prawns this weekend from Costco...looked lovely big tiger prawns (previously frozen). Does any body else have the same problem with prawns....sometimes they are soft and delicious, then other times tasteless and rubbery. What makes them like that ? Is it where they are from or the fact that they have been frozen.
I have wondered (as these are awful) that I could use the same logic with these as you do with squid - either quick cook or slow braise in the oven to make them tender. Trying now! Going to chuck them anyway! but I'll let you know. Would appreciate any input here
