Prawns

Bought some prawns this weekend from Costco...looked lovely big tiger prawns (previously frozen). Does any body else have the same problem with prawns....sometimes they are soft and delicious, then other times tasteless and rubbery. What makes them like that ? Is it where they are from or the fact that they have been frozen.

I have wondered (as these are awful) that I could use the same logic with these as you do with squid - either quick cook or slow braise in the oven to make them tender. Trying now! Going to chuck them anyway! but I'll let you know. Would appreciate any input here Confused

Well the slow cooking worked! Tender prawns in a curried tomato sauce... dinner this evening! Will not buy them again tho'. Think it is the tiger prawn's texture I dont like...king prawns ok

Strange isn't it? I stopped buying the little ones and only buy tiger ones because we like the firmer texture rather than the soft mushy little ones.

I'm afraid I don't buy tiger prawns anymore for that reason ofgs, I'm not sure but I think king prawns are a different beast-when I order chinese food with king prawns they are always nice. One of the worst things I have eaten was a king prawn ring with a pot of dip in the middle-from Iceland-I think they were tiger prawns-the cats ate well that night, lol Big Grin
