Fruit cake using All Bran

Thread Starter: sheilarose    Started: Mon 13 Jun 2005    Replies: 9

A friend bought all bran in an attempt to be healthy - but hates it. However she remembers we shared a fruit cake recipe around the office maybe 12 yrs ago, using all bran soaked in tea?! Does anyone have a recipe using all bran? Confused

The tea would moisten the fruit more wouldn't it. Have you used all your All Bran now?

I found this recipe in Mum's recipe book, cut from a packet of All Bran. It's very similar to jennifer's recipe.
Bran Fruit Loaf
4oz All bran
5oz caster sugar
10oz mixed dried fruit
1/2 pint milk
4oz self raising flour
Put All Bran, sugar and dried fruit in a bowl and mix well tog. Stir in milk and leave to stand for at least an hour. Sieve in flour, mix well and put into a well-greased 2lb loaf tin.
Bake in moderate oven [Gas4, 350 or 180]for about 1 hour. Turn out of tin and cool. Serve sliced with butter!

Also wanted to say to jennifer that I made your chocolate cake recipe over the weekend - delicious. Thanks.

looking at your recipe jennifer, I dont think it will matter which cup you use as it is the same size for all the ingredients.
But thanks for sharing it with us.
Great for anyone who cannot eat eggs.

Sorry, should have said, the cup is a tea-cup, not an American one.

here's mine. I used to do this with the children in school years ago.

All Bran Loaf
1 Cup All Bran
1 Cup sugar
1 Cup Mixed dried fruit
1 Cup milk (I suppose you could use tea here)
1 Cup Self-Raising flour
pinch salt.
Method
Mix All Bran, sugar, fruit and milk or tea in a bowl. Leave to stand 45 mins. Stir in sifted flour and salt. Pour into lined loaf tin and bake about an hour gas 5, maybe more time till cooked and brown.
I know what you mean about All Bran Big Grin but this makes a good loaf.
