Can I have a brainstorm for ideas for sarnie fillings for a proper afternoon tea to get me motivated please?

Hi,

I'm in the middle of organising a coffee shop in a garden centre using Starbucks coffee... I'd be really interested in finding out what kind of products to sell. At the moment, there is only a cafe which sells your typical jacket potatoes, roasts and sandwhiches, etc. The coffee shop is looking to be a little more "trendy" to try and encourage the local business park employees to start coming in for a quick coffee and panini. We're still discussing breads and fillings at the moment, too, so any recommendations there would also be appreciated. Looking to have a "funky" coffee shop theme, but without excluding the majority of customers from the cafe from also dining with us, who are usually families or retired couples.

The coffee shop has got a panini grill. It is still being road tested at the moment as they seem to take far too long to grill. Can anyone recommend a certain bread supplier...?

Sorry this was such a long and demanding post, but would love to hear your ideas...

I read a few days ago about a fabled "Banana and Bacon" sandwich. We don't have any nice bread in tonight, but I will be trying it tomorrow. Has anyone tried one of these, and if so what are they like? I thought maybe they meant Plantain and Bacon, which would make more sense, being a savoury banana, but no, regular banana seems to be the way.

Cold roast beef, spanish onion and tomatoes with a dash of mustard, or instead of the beef, substitute with a strong cheddar Big Grin

Brown and White bread,
Butter thinly spread,
Egg and cress
Cucumber very thinly sliced...(very "in" right now)
Cream cheese and smoked salmon well seasoned.
Thinly sliced meat of choice, spread the bread with mustard mayo for a change.
Of course a selection of beautiful little cakes.. little temptations, and scones with jam and cream.
Earl Grey anyone??

Or howabout Gino's hangover cure sandwich. It doesn't necessarily have to be a hangover cure but looks delicious all the same. I think Lesley Waters did some recipes for big chunky sandwiches as well a couple of weeks ago on GFL. All made on a loaf of bread and cut into sections. Yummy! Tongue

Good robust ones to have (if your tea companions aren't TOO posh):

Pastrami, stilton and mango chutney.
Roast smoked ham, sunblush tomatoes and fresh basil.
Very thinly sliced roast beef, with Bernaise sauce used instead of butter.
Several layers of thinly sliced Cold roast pork with thinly sliced fennel.

I'd have these on either a good fresh crusty baguette - cut the baguette in half lengthwise, fill generously, then cut into inch slices held together by cocktail sticks, or else as normal on a good quality organic granary.
