Help with 1960's buffet

Thread Starter: kirst2    Started: Tue 07 Jun 2005    Replies: 7

I am putting together a 1960's buffet for an extended family 'do'. Being born in 1971 I don't recall the recipes that were hot in the 60's !!! - can anyone give me some pointers? Hot and cold food welcome. Thanks

I can remember the pinapple on sticks, but make sure that you put it in a potato or something I can remember them alway looking like hedgehogs. Butterfly cakes was another thing my Mum did.

My mum always used to do open bridge rolls - I particularly remember the egg mayonaise ones!

Kirst2 i can remember my Mother spending hours in the kitchen preparing a buffet in the 60s SmileVol-au-vents filled with mushroom and bacon prawns or chesse, cheese and pineapple on sticks, sausages on sticks, little bridge rolls filled with home cooked ham or egg and cress, the salad was always layered lettuce, egg, toms etc, sausage rolls, pork pie, black pudding ,home made piccalilli, pickled onions, trifle, a sponge cake filled jam and cream if it was a special occasion. I will come back if i think of anything else.

This subject of 1960s food has been a topic before, so try typing 1960 into the search bar at the top left hand corner of the screen , under uktv FOOD and you will be able to read some of the ideas talked about.
