Pastry Knife

Thread Starter: AnnaMarie63    Started: Mon 06 Jun 2005    Replies: 3

I have just moved to England and I love to make pastries. The problem is I can't find what we in America call a Pastry Knife or cutter. I have asked around and most people think I'm talking about something you cut the pastry with ( as in designs and such). But that is not what I'm looking for, what I am looking for is a tool that you use to cut the shorten or butter into the flour. I find this cuts the butter into the flour very fine and creates a very light and flakey crust. Does anyone know where I can find one.

Try ebay.

Click on Collectables, then kitchenalia and type in Pastry maker , there is one up for auction at the moment , all of 99p.
Good luck.

Anna-Marie - I think you are referring to a device that is basically a handle with a series (about 8) parallel blunt "blades" curling around the handle, like an extended knuckle duster. Like this:

I have seen them in virtually every department store. Try House of Fraser, Debenhams or Selfridges. I use one for short pastry - very effective indeed!
