Ice Cream Makers

Thread Starter: wildfrank    Started: Tue 31 May 2005    Replies: 15

Can anyone recommend an Ice cream maker? there seem to be so many on the market that I don't know where to begin, but I won't be able to afford one with a built in freezer unit, so it will have to be one where the bowl is chilled in the freezer, many thanks
Franco

So what's the best machine to buy? Is the Sunbeam $299 ice cream maker as good as the more expensive ones? Does anyone have experience of using one in Australia? It's my birthday tommorow and I really want one - but which one...?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Julia, do you mean 30 hours ?????

Does anyone know which is best:
Gaggia Gelateria
or
Gelato Chef 2200
and why ?
TIA from Denmark

Yeah, it's over 200 GBP and it sits in a corner on one of my work tops. It's pretty heavy for moving around all the time. But there is no bowl prefreezing. You switch the machine on 10 mins before ready to chirn your icecream, and it's ready for storing in a freezer in 30 hour depending on the recipe. The bowl size is roughly a liter. Real straight forward and extremely easy to clean!

I've got Gelatiera Gaggia for a year now. Made plenty of all sorts of ice creams and am real happy with the machine as well as with the results!

I have just been discussing this one with a friend - am I right in thinking that the deluxe jobs with their own freezing ability have to be set up in a perm. place and not moved about. Seem to remember Delia saying something such thing....

I have a kenwood ice cream maker that cost only £20 from Homebase. It has a bowl that you keep in the freezer until needed. It is great and I use it a lot, now here comes the but.It would not be able to cope with some recipes using a large quantity.I have just bought a book with 150 ice cream recipes which I would like to try out this summer, but I think to make some of them I will have to make them in the old way of freezing and stirring. So if you have a large family or just want to make larger amounts try to buy one with a larger capacity.

Can't find it now!! I think it was a panasonic anyway it was a battery powered jobby from lakeland. they said that you pop the whole thing in the freezer with no need to pre freeze and the whole process takes place in the freezer. Think they said that the batteries where approx £7.00 a go but would last up to 25 cycles. Hope this is of some help.
