Reply to Paulinehaines. Try Paul Heathcotes called The Longridge Rastaurant in Preston, Lancashire. We have been 5 times now and have never had a dissapointed yet, in fact they have a special offer on this Thursday 28/07 and we are booked in for that aswell. The web address is www.heathcotes.co.uk/longridge to view the menu. Gwennygirl Smile

Have heard that Nutters isn't so good since they moved to the larger premises - both from word of mouth and from a couple of reviews - if anyone has eaten there recently would love to hear from you

What about Nutters? It's not too far from you. Also, a couple of good Italians in Bury and one in Radcliffe. The Crimble at Bamford (between Bury and Rochdale) used to be my late father's favourite - even after he couldn't eat he still used to take us there. The Red Hall at the top of Walmersley Road in Bury used to be very good, but I haven't been there for a while, so it may have changed hands since then. Hope this helps.

Would you go as far as Southport? You could try the Warehouse Brasserie (Warehouse Brasserie, 01704 544662, 30 West Street, Southport PR8 1QN), which had good French / modern food when I last went (about 2003). It was a treat for my mum's birthday and we saw local resident Alan Hansen in there too, which I guess is a further recommendation!

Perhaps see if you can find some more recent reviews online, as the chef may well have changed since then. Hope you find somewhere.
