truffles

Thread Starter: Jen    Started: Sun 12 Dec 2004    Replies: 7

Well I've splashed out and bought a little jar of whole black truffles for Christmas. I've never tried them before and I'm thinking of making them into scrambled eggs (found a few recipes via google).
Is that the best thing to do with them? It's real pressure having something that cost so much!!

Thanks everyone.
I love the way in some parts of France they have signs telling you you're not allowed to go truffleing. I always have images of poachers going out in the dark with their pet pigs to find them...
Do You mean "nice cup of tea and a sit down' Rustie? Available in all good bookshops I hear. Selling fairly well too apparently.Hence the truffles! Smile

Asda are doing a truffle butter this christmas. Don't know the price, but it may be worth a try.

Well I am a real cheapskate. I buy truffle oil, £8.50 for 55ml, and use it in mashed potato. Just a few drops seems to do the trick.

Mashed potato is even more popular than it used to be in our house.

It is also lovely in scrambled egg or an omelette, I haven't told the rest of the family about that yet, and feel sort of guilty .... but not much!

Love truffle with scrambled egg and smoked salmon for breakfast on Christmas morning. Just a word to the wise, if you haven't used truffle before, it has a very powerful taste. I would use just a little at first - if you really like it you can use more next time. Hope you enjoy. Smile Smile

Back to simple old Nick again :)

Get yourself a good peeler, and if you leave the truffles in between the eggs, the eggs will absorb the smells.
And you can use it for longer then !!!

So, the book is selling well? What is it called again? Oh and isn't it available on Amazon?
