Canapes and snacks for TOH

Thread Starter: Brie    Started: Tue 02 Nov 2004    Replies: 10

Hi all.

TOH is very stressed at the moment job wise, and is only popping into the house to sleep, not really any time to eat. So I want to do him some snacky canape things he can just throw back as he is a snacker, and won't eat a big meal before he goes to bed.

I have done a search, but lots of the canapes on here involve fish and he doesn't like that. I also have a tapas book and have looked at a few tapas sites..but I guess I just want something a bit different...and wondered if any of you guys had any wonderful snacky recipes? He loves cheese and pates and vegetables and pretty much anything but fish..so any idea would be very welcome!

Brie, how about rubbing a whole (small) camembert with garlic, drizzling with olive oil and placing in a small dish into the oven for 10 minutes. Serve the lovely oozing melted cheese with some nice crusty bread and dunk away. So tasty and quick. Or maybe make a batch of chicken satays, freeze em and you can cook half a dozen at a time under the grill for 10 minutes. You can make the peanut dressing and keep it in the fridge for a week or so. Good luck.

Hi Brie.......why not make a Spanish tortilla (omelette) you can do many different varieties, meat and/or veg, it's as good cold as it is hot and very, very filling. Sue Smile

Oh thanks all you guys....I have tried the tortilla ones but have to get the ingredients for the others.

he is home late again tomorrow.

He was all tired when he got home just now, so I did him the tortilla plus a cheese selection plus some chocolate buns and some sausages in bacon and guacomole and tortilla crisps...so I need loads of new things for tomorrow cos he loved all that! Big Grin

And thanks helens mum for your lovely words Hug

Hug Hug Brie, all these recipes are great, and I'm sure they will fill the gap, but you will fill his arms after a stressful day, Hug Smile Develish Develish You can take this is from an old "American-style housewifey advert" Wink Wink It works though, cos that is wot men are like Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Blurgh Blurgh Big Grin Big Grin Well, that's what I'm told by my not-so-politically-correct friends Cheeky Big Grin

Hi. Try a beef tomatoe scooped out - then crack an egg into shell, grate some good cheddar on top and bake for about 10 mins. Great with crusty bread or try with ciabbatta rubbed with garlic and oil and then grilled.

Hi There

I find that toasted pitta bread with houmous is really nice as a snack meal or flavoured rice cakes/organic oat cakes with garlic and herb soft cheese. It's really quick but nicer than sandwiches. Or another idea is cous cous with roasted veg like red onion, cherry tomato, peppers, basil but crumble goats cheese on the top.

Put a tortilla wrap in a non stick pan, cover in parma ham, gruyerre or similar cheese, chopped tomatoes and basil. Put another tortilla on top and cook, turning once til the cheese melts. Sylvana whatsit did it on the Best although she may have added a few more things. Big Grin
