I've lived in Italy for 2 years now and have found it impossible to find creme fraiche or fromage frais, can anyone advise me of a suitable substitute in recipes.

Windsor, Ciao, I'm in Italy too, I don't know where you live but here in Milano the larger brances of Esselunga sell creme fraiche.
