Courgettes

Thread Starter: goldie1    Started: Tue 14 Sep 2004    Replies: 12

I loathe courgettes and was wondering what other alternative I could use for example;ratatouille.I have thought about using peppers but I feel some dishes need a more robust veg.I do have a creative mind but I keep drawing a blank on this one.Any ideas anybody? Confused

Patty Pans are little flower shaped vegetables, I think they are related to squash. They are either yellow or green. Maybe google could come up with a picture for you.
My food that I dislike, well herb is coriander! eehh Blurgh

Hi Dorz. They taste so bland and feel slimy in the mouth. It's the only way I can describe them really. They also remind me of cucumber, which I couldn't even contemplate eating warm. There could be a good topic here somewhere-Foods you dislike.Anyway, what are Patty Pans,I've never heard of them? I know Petit Pains, are they related?! lol Big Grin

How about Patty Pans instead of courgettes, I love courgettes so I couldnt even think about ratatouille without them! What is it about them that you dont like?

How about carpaccio di zucchine? Very nice, we eat it all the time. Peel the courgettes 1st then slice very thinly ( maybe with a peeler) place in a big shallow dish then cover with a mix of good extra virgin oil oil, lemon juice & black pepper, then eat. Or Fried courgettes, slice, dip in beaten egg, then coat in a mixture of breadcrumbs & grated parmesam ( or similar) then deep fry, workes well with aubergines too. Tongue

Thanks for the advice guys.I'm a bit of a stickler for following recipes to the letter.I make chilli with kidney beans because the recipe says to and I pick out all the beans on my plate because I hate them too!!Aren't I daft?! Anyway, I think I will try the mushrooms and different peppers. Thanks again

go with rustie on that one, you can substitute the courgette with any other veg that you prefer, there are so many out there.

I don't always use courgettes or marrow in ratatouille, if your recipe says use them, just leave them out, I would use whatever I had available, well ratatouille is basically a vegetable stew. Maybe green beans, or of course field mushrooms, do you already use aubergine? or, cauliflower and broccoli? Anything really. But lots and lots of different colour peppers sounds good to me. Smile
