where can i find smoked paprika??

ive got a recipe for a hungarian goulashy thing & one of the ingredients is smoked paprika which i cant find anywhere. ive made the stuff with normal paprika & its good but smoked paprika sounds better. has anyone heard of it or know where i can find it???

hi & thanks everyone...finally finally thanks to you lot found some smoked paprika in sainsburys, i had trawled sainsb before & not spotted it..dont know why they dont put all spices/pastes etc together!!!???? or would that just be to simple for them to contemplate Big Grin

yes there is a difference between the smoked and unsmoked. smoked gives more depth to a dish,so it is heavier in flavour, the others are lighter but if hot, mild or whatever u like, take your pick..

Hi Millym,

Jon's right- you can buy it in the Sains. special section and look for a little red tin. I think you'll find that you need the sweet smoked paprika not the hot one, though that depends on your taste. Smoked paprika does give that "je ne sais crois" taste to dishes!

Most supermarkets sell it nowadays.I got mine from Sainsbury's -La Chinata, I think it's called - and you'll find it in their "extra expensive (sorry, "special")section.
