fresh pasta

hey... i was thinking of making fresh pasta... im nervous about... i know the techniques etc.. but!!!!! how do u know when the pasta is cooked? does it float? im sure ive seen somethin float like that.. or was the niocci (i know it isnt spelt right.. lol) so how do u know... ?
So please let me know if I say anything incorrect..I love learning new things!
