cep I know what you mean about the Cabin. We have been there a lot of times and have never been dissapointed. Mo who was a partner in the Cabin now owns Roastit. So you know that the food is of an excellent standard. He also has a bistro on Argyle St (Finnieston) called Fanny Trollpes. Which is superb. They have built up a good reputation.

The Cabin at Whiteinch is superb and very quirky. Cafe de Sud at St Georges Cross (not square)is brill. The Mussel Inn in the centre is great if you like mussels and other seafood bits. Good for lunch.

I know that I posted this before but we took my son to Roastit Bubbly Jacks in Dumbarton Rd (Partick) for dinner. We were there again last week and it was fantastic. We are lucky living in Broomhill to be within walking distance. Another grear local eatery is the Sisters Restaurant in Crow Road. But Give me Roasxxxx any time

Well Hello, I have been living in Straven area, South Lanarkshire just over 30 years and I have been going to an Indian for all that time in Glasgow called SHENAZ, in Charing Cross area. Their "Special Beef" is out of this world, Chunks of beef and no fat. I have introduced so many to this haven of food with no complaints so far.

We are on the other side of Botanic Gardens (the road opposite One Devonshire Gardens - our local, obviously - not!!!).

Wino, I don't think I know that school, but we used to play hockey at the playing fields next to Hutcheson Grammar, can't remember what they were called, started with a C. This is going to really bug me now Was is clouston st? just off Queen Margaret's Drive?

I love Arta - another Stefan King (G1 Group) success - which is in the old cheese storage. They have a mainly Spanish theme and serve tapas upstairs so you should like it Carol.

Yes, 2 Fat Ladies, serves good fish dishes but is tiny (maybe 12 tables) and doesn't have much atmosphere - feels more like a cafe than a restaurant.

The Greek on Great Western Road is Parthenon which, again, is ok. Nice atmosphere but the dishes are a bit hit and miss.

Hi, the best place I have been to in the Merchant City is Arta. Fantastic food, fantastic atmosphere. It feels like you're walking into a mediaeval castle with all the candles they have burning!

Hi, I live in Ayrshire but was brought up in Glasgow, want to school at North Kelvinside (which I think has been pulled down now) and then moved to the South side so no bias When i go to Glasgow i like to go to La Tasca on renfield st, just up from Central station. Great tapas bar, brill atmos. You can order paellas after 6pm. Also tried Ding's Grand buffet which is in merchant city, if you fancy Chinese or Kublai Khan (mongolian) which is round the corner. Haven't tried it yet but they have a website. Haven't been to the west end in ages, but isn't there a restaurant called two fat ladies? that is supposed to be good and also a greek place on Gt Western road?

Not a SouthSider by any chance Little Jo? Hint of a little dislike of the West End, maybe? Any reason?

It is a fabulous place to live and it is great to be able to walk to so many venues on Byres Road without the mele of town (especially when the footie fans are out and about blootered!).

There are dozens and dozens of good eating places in Glasgow at all price ranges. There are good Italian, Indian and Chinese places near the Kings Theatre. Paparinos is a particular favourite of mine. There is much mystique around "The West End" but you can get just as good nosh in the City Centre. For good merchant city nosh, Cafe Gandolfi is my recommendation.

Well Gin & Tonic I've been living in the West End of Glasgow for 3 years now. It is about 3 miles to the west of the city centre and is a 'venue' in its own right where a lot of media people live and the university is based. As a result it is quite a cosmopolitan area with many good bars (especially Ashton Lane) and restaurants (No 16, The Ubiquitous Chip, Gong, The Bothy, Straivaiginto).

The Merchant City is slighty to the east of the city centre but within walking distance (past Corinthian - another great venue with 4 bars, a restaurant and nightclub). Good bars here include Metropolitan and Arta (another all in one venue) and restaurants such as Arisiaig (Scottish) and The Dhabba (North Indian).

Dear Wino am living here permantly in bridge of weir area have been to the buttery very nice.Have never been to the merchant city or west end dont know how to get to the place.Perhaps you can help ?

Well, as a local, I'm afraid I have to disagree (sorry!). There are many more better places in Glasgow.

Rogano is a great place to have a drink (usually a glass of champagne) and wonderful for people watching but the food is overpriced and overhyped.

On the same level, The Buttery beats Rogano hands down (but is also not cheap).

I have been to Rogano's a couple of times and have to agree it is absolutely wonderful - the first time I just propped up the bar, drinking Black Russians, taking in the art deco decor - it really is a beautiful place. The second time I sat in the restaurant and enjoyed the most fantastic seafood. This was quite a few years ago now (over 10), but am glad to hear that it is still as good.

You must try Rogano's, which is in the centre of town. It was designed by the same people as did the Queen Mary and is fab!

Well, G&T, I live in Kelvinside so know the West End pretty well.

Whereabouts are you looking? Do you live here or are you visiting (as City Centre & Merchant City may be better)
