Marmite Cake

Thread Starter: YasminFraz    Started: Sat 31 Jul 2004    Replies: 8

This is not a wind up.. honest! I was talking about cakes with a friend today and when she visited Africa (not sure which country) she said the most delicious cake she'd ever tasted included Marmite in the ingredients. Does anyone out there have this recipe? Marmite haters need not respond!

Thanks
Barbara

I have just tried your recipe and what a hit it has been with my family.
Even me who doesn't like the stuff found it quite nice .
Does anyone have any more recipes from "Sunny South Africa"?
Oh well back to making some more Marmite tarts
Do we know if it freeze's?
Thank you

Marmite probably contains a lot of B vitamins and if you take Brewers yeast, also before holidays it stops mossies biting.

They do not like the aroma given off by the B vitamins so I have heard, but as long as it works who cares.

Heard of cakes with tomato soup and/or pepper in them.

My sister lives in Capetown, has done for several years and has never heard of a cake with marmite in it. She is going to ask friends, who have lived in Capetown all their lives. If they know I will let you know.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Mossies hate Marmite... that's a new one for me. I bet someone is paid a ridiculous amount of money to research that phenomenon!

I think it's a sweet cake as opposed to a savoury Live Wire.

I`ve mentioned this before, I know, but this is the honest truth, Marmite keeps away mosquitoes. I read about it before we went on holiday to the Mossie capitol of the world (Barbados) my hubbie and I are mossie magnets. We followed instructions and ate a piece of marmite toast every morning. We went on hols with 2 friends who scoffed at the idea. Guess who was bitten to death (not us). we went to the same places they came back covered in blisters. As they say in the States - Go figure!!!

Don't know what type of cake you mean, sponge, etc. but on the undernoted site - Marmite recipe ideas - there is a recipe for a Marmite Tart, more like a cheese flan.
It's amazing what some folk will do with Marmite.
