Thanks.

A word of warning though. I made some years ago and I did not let the yeast ferment completely. Once it hit my stomach it gave me the worst stomach pain I have experienced. It did taste good though.

By golly she's right, a quick twist and bob's ure uncle!!

It tastes like the cola ( pepsi or coke ) I used to remember as a child, my daughter is not quite sure as it is different to todays taste.

Not cheap tho!!!

Can recommend the Old fashioned lemonade and Seville orange jigger that Fentimans make.

First time I drank these was in Heals restaurant and was so surprised to see they are made in Newcastle.

Now I buy a case at Gateshead Flower show where they have a stand and do a special price.

Yes Frexy, Safeway now sell the Fentimans Ginger Beer, and it says on the label, not more than 0.5% alcohol by vol. it is botanically brewed.

It is still on the soft drinks shelf, but admittedly on the top shelf, so 'lil 'ol me had problems reaching it as well as reading the label this time, but as I think you said before, 0.5% or less, legally, does not count.

They also do a Curiosity Cola, also saying not more than 0.5% alcohol by vol. they both come in lovely olde worlde bottles with proper beer caps.

I still hate Ginger Beer, but may try the cola, just out of curiosity.

Just checked the Fentimans site and they state that their Ginger beer is brewed from finest chinese ginger root.

Therefore if it is brewed it should contain some alcohol.

Love most of the Fentimans drinks specially the Seville orange jigger.

Cheers Blondie. My education is now complete! My mum was too busy brewing things far more alcoholic than ginger beer when I was growing up. I remember beer, wine and schnapps (yes, sometimes all brewing or fermenting at the same time!) but never ginger beer.

Martino ,I was talking about homemade via a ginger beer plant, which is fermented with yeast.

Also Fentimans do a proper ginger beer which has a very low alcohol content.
If the alcohol content is below 1% if I remember then it does not have to be declared.

I try to home-make as much stuff as possible but I'll probably just end up buying it. Thanks everyone anyway.

Never heard of a ginger beer plant! Probably before my time as I'm only 23.

Yep and as Martino has said, I am the crazy cow who went to the supermarket to read the label.

LOL what he has been kind enough not to say, is that I didn't take my glasses with me, so couldn't read the label so had to buy a bottle of the stuff and bring it home, to read the label.

And. as Martino very well knows, I hate ginger beer!!!!! whether it has alcohol or not!

Yes, in my young day I think everyone had a ginger beer plant. Only thing, it was pretty dangerous hobby as only glass bottles were available and if you were unlucky there were a few explosions.
However, from what I can remember, the end result was pretty good.

Ginger beer is mildly alcoholic as it is fermented with yeast.

Anyone have a gingerbeer pland as a youngster?
