Cookery Book Clubs

Thread Starter: Eclectic    Started: Wed 09 Jun 2004    Replies: 9

Has anyone joined one of those discount mail-order cookery book clubs? If so, can you recommend any? I'm suspicious of any that seem too good to be true (surely there's a hidden catch - like having to buy one full-price book a month for the next year...).

Good info Lisa,

I will check out kelco as I love to collect cookery books.

I have to say that although taste is dearer than bol BY FAR, it does actually offer slightly more choice or the same choice but with more expensive p & p. The initial offer is great and you only have to buy 4 more books. I can always do with 4 more books. The prices are discounted but only by a few pounds but when addded to the p & p it isn't great, but you can always use both sites.

I go to bol first and buy the 60% off books, then go to taste and buy the ones I want that have only 20% off at bol. There by full filling my commitment to taste so I get the introductory offer and still getting the cheap books from bol.

Really it depends on how many books you buy at the end of the day.

BOL

Bol and Taste are the same company but BOL are always cheaper & have a better variety.
I am a member of taste which at times is dearer then the deals you can get in bookshops and the choice is not too good. Initial offer is good but after that forget it.
To get a general idea have a look on www.kelkoo.co.uk which is a price comparison site

Bol.com are fab! In fact, I have just ordered 3 books from them a few minutes ago, including Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's latest, 'Meat', at £10 (60% off). They deliver quite quickly, the books are well packed, the prices are unbeatable. Also, I can dip into the site when I please & not feel under pressure to meet my commitment, or feel harried by the arrival of that month's newsletter/catalogue.

Check prices first - a lot of the books from Taste are cheaper from BOL.com and their only other commitment is to purchase one firther book within six months.

Is that www.tasteonline.co.uk? Looks good but how many books are you committed to buying after the first lot? It's not too clear from the website.
