Thread Starter: brucelee    Started: Sat 15 May 2004    Replies: 30

Does anyone know where I can get liquid smoke?

I bought some in the US and mixed it in with mayo and tabasco, was so nice with roast chicken salad sandwich.

Can't get it in tesco, havent tried anywhere else.

Anyone seen it?
Cheers

Thanks everyone for your comments.
As i live for cooking it has put my mind at ease to know i will still be able to get most things. Fairborn isn't far from where we are going so thats useful to know.

Just one thing BeccaNurse you said you won't get Bovril but can you get marmite?????

Mind you after saying all that i find it hard to get a lot of things over hear, as where i live we haven't got any Delis close at hand, so maybe i may be better off over there...
Thanks for all your best wishes. I can't wait to go i'm sure it will be an experience of a lifetime. we are only going for 3 years but if w4e like it so much we may stay a lot longer......;-)

there are also "international" shops in the states that wouldn't necessarily be classified as "british." one in st. louis is REALLY neat, it's called Global Foods and each aisle has stuff from a different country, with that country's flag hangning over it. it's awesome and since it's so popular, they can keep their prices REASONABLE! best of luck to you!"

I'm in NYC and we have ONE - can you believe it - shop that carries British goods.....but you have to get there as they get their shipment coz they run out quick!

Rachel, from all the lists of British goods I have there's one listed in Ohio, in Fairborn.....but there are a bunch of online places in the States to buy things. I could list some for you if you'd like.

Managed to buy 'Old Dakota' liquid smoke at Safeway in High Wycombe, but be careful as the Buffalo Wing glaze is in a similar bottle. I bought one of each instead of two of smoke.

good luch rachel6...are you going permanently? one of my very best friends lives in ohio...akron though, not dayton. anyway, she said that there are SEVERAL international grocery stores in the area...if it's anything like the one in st. louis, you'll be ok. as i've said on another thread...there are lots of "english" shops across the country and there's TONS of online ordering, but certainly there will be SOMETHHING you won't be able to find...i can tell you you WON'T find BOVRIL anymore. good luck to you! hugs

brucelee - try this site -

cybercandy.co.uk

They have a shop at 11 Shelton St. Covent Garden.

Loads of American candy, Hershey bars, sweets from Australia, New Zealand, China, Japan, etc.

Try ASDA fo Hershey's chocolate. My lovely daughter bought us a Hershey's Egg for Easter...which was very naughty because I'm not supposed to eat sweet things. But, it was very yummy. She also buys bags of Hershey's kissed with nuts and crunchy bits in them from there.. Have a look there.

But for now I'll try to find expat stores in london.

Hi BeccaNurse, I'm going to have to argue with you over the Cadbury Vs Hershey Embarrassedp

Give me Hershey's any day.

Cadbury's tastse like coco powder, vegetable oil and suger, ,mixed together, it's nasty.

Where as Hershey's, whilst I agree it is a cheap tasting chocolate, it is so much nicer than Cadbury's, which to me is the cheapest tasting chocolate ever.

suzyq...where ddo you live in the states? there are TONS of british shops throughout the states that have lots (but not all!) of the most missed favs! likewise, there are some american shops in britain (do a search of "american groceries in britain) which might have liquid smoke...perhaps you and suzy could make a trade off?!?!?!?! Were you kidding about Hershey's chocolate???? I don't think i've ever known another brit to like it....it's WAX compared to scrummy cadbury's!!!!

Oh, add salad cream and branston pickle! Proper double cream! Double Gloucster cheese...

Oh, now you're making me hungry!!

I miss.....hmmmmmm.....

Muscavado sugar, sweeties of all sorts, loose tea, Touch of Taste stock, marigold vegetable stock, jelly babies, oh the list goes on and on!

You can order many things online in places but they are so ridiculously expensive. One site I found also shipped American goods to the UK.

If I ever had my suitcase checked they'd think I was totally daft....hardly any clothes and tons of grocery items!

Hi relishmama I hope it is, I'm not a member of sainsbury online, and unless I am doing something wrong, it doesn't let you proceed to groceries.

But I'll head there tuesday, fingers crossed.

Hi Suzzy_Q, it's funny you say that, we are the same, when we are in the states it looks like we robbed a supermarket when we return, hersheys, shake n bake, humpty dumpties ect...

We tried shipping over some furniture from potterybarn, but they were having none of it Smile

What do you find you miss from the UK?

Sat 15 May 2004, 8.52PM

Suzzy_Q

I'm in the States and we wonder why we don't get so many of the wonderful products you use.

If you can't find the liquid smoke anywhere, perhaps a trade? A few things you may want for a few things I may want?

When I travel back fromt he UK my friends are amased.....no trinkets, no souveniers, just a near suitcase full of grocery items!

The one i posted says it a marinade but the picture shows the bottle you describe, probably just the american term for the sauce. its definately the one go into sainburystoyou.com and do search.
