Forgot to say that you can use Campbell's condensed soups for bases for sauces and dishes. They even have recipes on the back fo the tins.

When I was a student a few years back we had access to fridge and freezer, although they weren't really big enough to hold 10 people's stuff! so we had to shop regularly for fresh stuff.

However, we did use fresh veg and I found it was meat that was expensive.

Some easy and quick meals used pasta. Also, although not terribly cheap I bought Tesco pesto because you only needed a bit at a time so it lasted ages - add this to pesto and you have a quick, easy and filling meal.

Another thing I used to do was add one or two of those small individual portions of Borsin (the ones you get in cheese pick and mix section of supermarkets) to a tins of tomatoes to make a quick creamy garlic and herb tomato sauce for pasta or whatever.

You could make a corned beef hash with tinned corned beef, baked beans and instant mash - not that I actually like any of these!

I must say that I find it hard to come up with things just from tinned and dried ingredients.

Hi their Terry, Been very, very busy lately. Jayson had a great time. Keeps saying I can vote, drink ect: Bought him a new system for the computer from PC Specialist on the net. A nokia something. They build it for you. I must be mad , it's my computer downstairs and bit by bit he's changing it. I'm going to tell him to take it upstairs to his own room and I can have mine back. No he doesn't live here but it feels like it. His college is here so he stays sometimes. a lot....Hubby had a great time aswell, not to keen on being a year older though. I have 2 slovaks staying and also 2 french girls for 9 days. It's one of the slovaks birthday today aswell. Anyway how are you Terry? Enjoying this good weather, what are you up to?

Does he want to make his entire meal from tins? For excample......Tinned potatoes served with tinned meatballs served with tinned peas. Is that what you are after?

Give him lots of rice and curry paste. You can curry anything from mince to cauliflower - when at uni curry whatever is on special offer.

If it must be tins, then some tinned veg is better than others - tinned broad beans are good for mash, with butter and garlic; beansprouts and bamboo shoots will go some way to making a good stirfry with a jar of sauce; tinned tomatoes are a must as they are the basis of so many meals - bolognaise sauce, etc.

But, if he can get down to a food market on a saturday around 3pm - 4pm, they sell off their veg really cheaply - a good tip if on a budget. Then make some soup, etc., and freeze it if he can.

Only tins? does he not have a fridge and/or freezer?

My daughter is at Uni, but she has always had fridge and freezer, cooker and micro.

But I am sure people will come up with stuff or you if it is tins only.
