Ive just had my lunch, which was a bowl of mash covered with chicken gravy, left over from roast yesterday, (due to toothache) it was fab, very comforting. sometimes the simplest things are the best. Nigella lawson loves a bowl of mash for supper when she is low so im in good company!! Makes a change.

Dear sharon115, I think you've just given me the recipe to a potato, cheese and onion bake, that I used to have in a cafe in****ord Haven. It's shut down now unfortunately, but at least now I can try and make it myself.

Thank you, Francesco.

if that doesnt keep you busy dont know what will...mash is so versatile. any of the above would be great. just one more to add, add grated cheese, saute some onion, break up some smoked mackeral, season in a gratin dish sprinkle with a little more cheese, in the oven , diff version of corned beef hash!!!

You could also try potato gnocchi, there is a really nice Giorgio Locatelli version in the recipe section with gorgonzola, or if you are not keen on gorgonzola any of your favourite sauces or a pesto.

It is best made with freshly made mashed potato but I have made it with leftover mash.

This is a real old family favourite, if you are looking for a sweet idea for a change..
Potato Marmalade Cake.

8oz S.R. flour
4oz marg
pinch salt
6oz sieved potato
4oz caster sugar
2 eggs
3 Tablspns Marmalade

Rub marg and flour together, Mix in salt.
Add potato and caster sugar. Stir in beaten egg and marmalade.
Pour into a lined greased small loaf tin.
Bake 1-1/4 hours Gas mark 4 or equivalent.
Lovely eaten sliced or spread with butter.
Enjoy..

P.S. Doesn't work if it is a Garlic Mash!!!:D

My goodness, that sent before I had finished, now where was I oh yes! Roll mash into little balls, dip into egg then flour and then breadcrumbs and fry, try adding spring onion and cheese and make as above. Mashed potatoe scones,...... Layer of mash topped with cheese, layer of noodles topped with cheese and build up ending with cheese. their are so many dishes you can make. The list is endless as MammaChef say's.

Make some pastry, cut into rounds as if making cornish pasties fill with left over mash, chedder cheese or a nice melting cheese, chopped spring onions and diced cooked ham ,pop into oven untill golden brown.

I make a cheese potato pie with my left over and they don't stay left overs for long.

I made this up as I love cheese and potato.
I slice and chop an onion and cook it until soft mix in to the mashed potato with salt, pepper and some grated cheese any tasty chedder cheese will do. Place it all in an oven proof dish cover with more grated cheese and put in the oven and cook till golden brown and hot all the way through.
I eat this with cold meat and salad or on its own with coleslaw.

I sometimes add a little butter, parmigiano cheese, perhaps a little mozzarella, sprinle the top with a little breadcrumb and parmigiano and bake it.

How about some fish, maybe tinned salmon, to make fishcakes?

Hi morrissey

Welcome to the boards. There are so many flavours that can be added to mash, hot or cold, then reheated to make a new edge on a new meal.

I'm obviously not talking of a new dish here, like porridge, just revamping mash for a new one.

some ideas are to add horseradish to mash to go with beef.

apple (cooked to a puree or bought apple sauce) to a dish with pork or gammon

a variety of cheeses to be added with a fish dish
grainy mustard to go with whatever you like grainy musty as a condement with

As I say, the list is endless, add some fridge or store cupboard goods to plain mash and make a meal of it.

Saffron is nice, it makes a dramatic colour but you will come up with whatever ingredients you like best

Porridge

got to be bubble and squeak as long as you have some leftover veggies as well!
