Thread Starter: guiness_cat    Started: Sat 24 Apr 2004    Replies: 5

hey y'all

Really could do with some help, my dad is currently destroying our kitchen so our new one can be put in.
We don't have a hob only a grill and an oven, i'm looking for a really tasty dish to make for my fiancee in a couple of weeks, the only problem is most things involve the hob in one way or another.
any one got any recipes that don't need a hob?

Do you have a microwave? If you do you can par boil or 'steam' veg using that.

You could do what we called scalloped potatoes (not sure if this is the proper term or not) - simply layers of thinly sliced potatoes cooked in milk and/or cream with seasoning, cover with foil for most of cooking then take of foil towards the end to crisp up the top. Boulangiere (sp?) potatoes are similar but I think uses stock instead of milk?

'Fish cooked in a bag' (or chicken) - get some foil and sit a piece of fish on it and place some flavourings with it, e.g. slices of lemon, lime, fresh herbs, etc then close up the foil to make a parcel around the fish. Depending on size of fish you shouldn't need to cook it for any longer than 15-20 mins. Someone else has mentioned on another post (different thread re chilli) about Jamie Oliver's chicken in a bag and I think this had potatoes and veg in too so it's a meal in a bag all cooked in the oven.

Good luck.

How about a roasted veg lasagne, spicy chips (par boil your chips, dry them well, coat them with some spices and then place under the grill) and the greek salad that jenkies mentioned?

Why don`t you make a salad thats easy and greek salads are dilishous all you need to get is

1 lettuce
1 red onion
1 small cucumber
8 stoned black olives
4 big tomatoes
feta chese

Shred the lettuce peel and slice the onion and cut the tomatoes into wedges. dice the cucumber. cut the chese into chubes. put it all in a bowl.
then make this dressing.

add al this in a jar and shake

pinch of salt and peper
1 teaspoon of dijon mustard
1 teaspoon of dried mint
3 tablespoons of olive oil
1 tablespoon of wight wine vinegar or lemon juice

poor on salad and toss
and you do not have to use an oven or a hob

Any grilled meat, steak, chops etc, with jacket or roast potatoes and a salad?

Or the same idea with grilled fish.

You could also cook some mushrooms in the oven or under the grill, just spray with a little oil first.

And I have for years cooked frozed veg in the oven, things like peas, sweetcorn, broad beans, or baby carrots, just wrap in a double layer of foil, add a little butter and salt & pepper, and pop in the oven.

Hi, I'm sure ewhatever you cook will be great!
A really nice idea is to go Italian. You could do a number of small-ish simple courses. Rough recipes below:

Bruschetta- with sun-drie tomes, goats cheese & rocket. (just what it says- no recipe req'd)

Mussels (Scicilian-stye)
The ones in the bag of garlic sauce, or fresh is good
Place in a casserole dish, and cook, in sauce (if bag) or some water, and tomato juice (from tin) for a few minutes til' bubbling. once nearly done sprinkle with a mix of breadcrumbs, herbs (anything fresh!)parmesan, and bake in oven for about 10 mins, until crunchy, amazing looking, and lovely flour.

Escalopes (grilled)
Pork/Veal steaks, hammered
marinade in rosemary, olive oil, garlic & and marsala (or maderia)
before grilling, roast some tomatoes/peppers, asparagus, shallots (in skin)garlic (in skin)and nice mushrooms , in olive oil & balsamic vinegar. for about 20mins. Remove any skins & keep warm.
Grill meat to liking & serve placed on top of vegetables, drizzled with any mixed juice from veg & grill tray.

Enjoy!
