Diabetes

Good Afternoon
Yesterday, I was diagnosed as having Diabetes. Its OK, I was expecting it and I have no problem with it at all especially since I though, great, I can go to this site and be able to get a few recipes. Sadly, there doesn't seem to be any. Oh, I can see some for low this, low that, sugar free this, diary free that, but nothing specifically for diabetics, or am I looking in the wrong places on this sites. Help please.

Hi Susie - I'm the same as you, Type II. I knew there was something wrong as I hadn't been feeling a hundred percent for sometime. But now I know, I can do something about it. The sugar-free jelly certainly sounds interesting but does it leave an aftertaste? Thank you for your advice and support.

There is a very helpful site if you know your diet limits called www.diabetic-recipes.com. It might be able to help you.

Hello Pete... My best piece of advice is LISTEN to advice. I have had this for thiry years or so, and I'm afraid I didn't listen enough in the early days.. am paying for it now. Eyes going, kidney's going, can't feel my feet..etc., wish I had now when it's too late.. so watch the carbs, and the sugar..keep yourself monitored, and take care of yourself..
Very good luck.Smile

Hi Pete
I was diagnosed about 2 months ago - are you Type II ?? I am and currently controlled with diet and hoping to remain that way!!
I got hold of a great book called Diabetes for Dummies (make sure you get the UK version!) and have found it very helpful. For recipies it almost seems to be as much about low fat and all the common-sense healthy eating advice that is widely available as anything else - although obviously large amounts of visible sugar are not ok and Cakes/Sweets/Biscuits are practically strangers to me now!
Try Sugar-free jelly - it's my Best Friend at the moment!!
Good luck with everything - of course the good advice above re: doctors and dieticians is true but my best tip would be not to see it as a diet but this is the way of eating that is normal for you now :0)
Sugar-free Hugs

Hi Pete,
AWT published a diabetic cookbook last October with the backing of the diabetic society, if that is any help.

Hi Pete,

Sorry to hear your news. We don't have diabetes as a category as sufferers should seek the advice of their doctor or a dietician to agree a diet that suits them personally.
