I have a recipe from my gran which has sugar on the top which she calls crumble cake not sure if it is the same one you want. The ingredients are
8oz Sr flour
1 tspn mixed spice
5oz butter
4oz sugar
1 tblspn treacle
2 eggs
8oz mixed dried fruit
2oz chopped walnuts
up to 2 tblspns milk
For the topping
2oz flour
1 tspn mixed spice
1oz butter
2oz sugar
2oz choppedwalnuts

Sive flour and spice and rub in butter add sugar and treacle and beat in eggs. Add the fruit and walnuts and add enough milk to give a smooth sticky mix. Place in greased 7inch cake tin and smooth the top flat.
For the topping sive flour and mixed spice rub in the butter and add sugar and nuts. Press on top of cake amnd bake for an hour at gas 4.
Hope this helps Smile
