Kitchenaid V Kenwood

Thread Starter: AgaChef    Started: Sat 14 Feb 2004    Replies: 11

I am wanting to buy a new food mixer, but am unsure which to buy. I love the look of the kitchenaid but the kenwood has a more powerful motor (I make a lot of bread).

Hi.

I personally think that Kitchenaid mixers are the best. Their motors are superior to that of the kitchenaid as they are direct drive. This means that the power goes into the gears and then into the motor. Therefore if the machine fails, kitchenaid are able to repair the machine by simply replacing the gears. Kitchenaid will normally pick the machine up from your home address and repair it and then return it to you. In all because Kitchenaid are a small enough company they care.
If you choose to by a kitchenaid then you could also by a matching blender and toaster, and later on this year a coffee machine.

Thanks Paul, think i'm gona get a cream one to match the aga, although a pink one would match my face after all that bread making. What is the wattage and have you any idea of the model number of the one with the powerful motor Iv'e only seen the KSm150 with a 325 watt motor.

Hi Rosie, Hoorah! My Kitchen Aid is in a very sleek black/grey anthracite finish to match with my other gadgets. But there are so many funky colours now. I saw the most groovy pink one in the US. If I had to buy one now I would buy a retro blue or the mad pink one.

I did not go for the mincer but a chef friend of mine uses his all the time. The pasta attachment is great for tagliatelle, spaghetti and linguine.

I would advise you to buy the more powerful motor version if you want to make bread as it really does a good job without straining the motor.

Have millions of fun shopping, let us know how you get on.

Thanks all for taking the time to reply, I am now off to buy a kitchen aid, if its good enough for Paul its certainly good enough for me! Now what colour shall I get, and is the mincer pasta maker worth buying?

I bought a Kenwood in 1976. it has been in constant use ever since with it's attachments, for peeling potatoes, making breadcrumbs, bread, soups, cakes. grating etc and not once has it given up on me. If it stopped working tomorrow I would have no hesitation in replacing it with another Kenwood, whatever else is on the market.

Hi Rosie Smed, I am Tracy Gwynne, I have had my kitchen aid for four years,I use mine for cakes, making batter mixes, and lots of bread making. It does the job well and they also look good. I wanted one after I done my chefs course at collage, were we used them all the time. I have not had any problems with mine. They are built to last, unlike the kenwood made with plastic. I hope this is helpfull.

Hi Rosie, I also love my Kitchenaid very much but I think you'll find opinion is very split. If you look back there have been several debates on this which you might find useful. The new Kenwood Chef is a huge improvement but I agree with PPY in that the Kitchenaid looks so sleek.

Hi RosieSmed, i am on my second kenwood chef and I would not change it for the world, I find it the best machien going. I too make lots of bread and cakes, also use the chef for shredding and slicing plus a lot more. I have used a kitchen aid many times at work an I do not find them as adaptable as the chef I hope this helps.

Hi Rosie, Paul Young here, and I have to say I love the Kitchen Aid. I make alot of my large wedding cakes in it and it has no problem with lack of power, although there are a selection of motors now that are faster and more heavy duty. I think its mainly down to looks, the kenwood isn't really a pretty thing where the Kitchen aide is like a piece of art sat on the kitchen work top and have you seen the colour options?

For me it was an easy choice and I did'nt give the kenwood a second glance. The kitchen aide is quieter too in my opinion.

Have fun shopping

love Paul Young
