Hello Dawn why not ring around the local wedding venues and ask for their buffet menus this might give you some ideas that you can do or adapt to suit your own taste. At my wedding my mother did the food and we had cold beef and ham with different salads hot boiled potatoes sausage plait and salmon braid a lovely vegetable terrine plenty of breadrolls and a couple of different cheeses although we are talking nearly 20 years ago. As Yukata says Make sure you check the facilities at the reception so you know how much storage you have and also the cutlery plate situation etc. I am sure it will all go well

I did the catering for my own 50th in my garden this summer and must have had about 140 peple there and one lesson I did learn was that I had too many different dishes, there must have been about 14 different things, so here goes with the ones I can remember (lots to drink too..) stuffed boiled eggs, stuffed dates, mixed mini quiches, big quiches, mixed stuffed pastry cones, salads: potato and two types of rice, cold roast turkey, prosciutto fountain with melon balls, several tpes of dips with raw veggies, I also bought ready made a "porchetta" italian roast baby pig, also made finger size sandwhiches, and two very big birthday cakes (bought). At the end of the evening for the hangers on I served an enourmous saucepan of "pasta e faggioli con cozze" which is pasta, beans and mussels, which is a really nice cold thick soup. The evening was a great success with the first arriving at about 6 in the evening and the last leaving at 5 the next morning!

right. dawn dont panick. but i think u will need help putting things together. there r so many nibblies as i call them that u can do, dont b too scared by numbers, prep is the key!! the way i go is to think ok first work out a plate of food, then think ok on average mayb 6 diff things a head. then work out how many of each diff thing u need to put together!.and remember 150 guests and i can guarentee no 2 will eat the same. u c an do the simple thing , rice salad ,pasta salad ,etc, etc, but u need to b so carefull of the hygiene thing, cross contam etc.so stick to things that un can prep b 4 but put together at last mo. hopeing armed with these , ideas will flow. i will b back!!! just that 18 years ago i did the eve prep for my own wed to save money and it went down well. but now i produce things a little more posh as my kids would say!!!

cheers to everyone who has posted so far. i'm definately thinking simple is the way to go,platters of salami, hams etc. olives, mozzarella things like that. but this wont feed 150 on its own which is why i need help. i'm a fairly competant cook but large numbers scare me (the most i've cooked for is my husband and 5 kids!)oh well what can go wrong!

One thing you need to make sure of is that you have enough cold/fridge space for the food for a buffet for 150 people.
Think about hiring extra.
You do not want anyone to go down with food poisoning.
