Tilia Food saver as on TV

Thread Starter: Matt the Chef    Started: Sat 03 Jan 2004    Replies: 9

I got one of these machines for christmas. Only problem is I cannot find bags at a sensible price in the UK. Does anyone know any uk suppliers except Cucina direct.

Thanks in advance

Matt

I bought one of the food sealers from Lidls and it is brilliant for what I need it for, it does take the air out of the bag.

I buy my 'bags' from Lakeland Ltd, they come in two different sizes, on a roll and you cut them to size. I have found them cost effective and very reliable so far.

you can usually find someone selling the bags on Ebay. I have bought from the site regularly just make sure the seller has a good feedback rating.
I am now using a professional series Foodsaver imported from the US with a proper power converter. Cant live with out it now that i have been using it for a year. The manual seal function on the pro series is most useful.

I have managed to find some

There are 500 bags
100 bags of 150 x 300 mm
300 bags of 200 x 300 mm
100 bags of 300 x 400 mm

They are around £100 depending on the exchange rate this includes postage and bank charges. That works out at around 20p per bag compared with 62p a bag if you brought tilia bags.

I think the largest bag is too big for the food saver and so may need to be cut giving you even more bags.

They are channelised so should be no different to tilia bags.

Luckily my mother and sister have a food saver as well so I can split the cost.

Once I get them and put them through their paces I will report back

My brother-in-law brought one of these from Lidl ages ago, he paid about £10. the only thing is they are just a sealer, the other on e (the expensive one)
has the vacum pump to take out the air. i have had mine for over a year and i am very pleased with it.

I would be interisted in that info Matthew, it is the cost of the bags that is putting me off buying one. I am wondering if it is the bags that do the job or the machine? they had bag sealers in lidl for about a tenner the other week, any comments anyone.

Many thanks for the comments.

I have managed to source a different make. They are almost identical ie they are channelised bags. They are made in Germany and hence lower import costs and no import duty.

I will post info when I manage to get something back from the company.

The only places i know to get these are Best Direct and QVC (both shopping channels) they are about £25.00 plus p @ p.
Dont do what i did when i first got my sealer, and order from the states, i paid more in post and customs than the bags etc cost. One good thing is that you can reuse then until they get too small !!.
