Onion Loaf - HELP

Thread Starter: Barbara2    Started: Tue 30 Dec 2003    Replies: 4

Does anyone have any ideas for making an Onion Loaf - literally a loaf made out of fried onions!! We used to eat this on trips to London's Chicago Rib Shack in Kensington which is now sadly closed down - I have tried without sucess so far, so over to all you foodies!!!

Thanx guys, but maybe I should have clearer - the loaf refers to the shape rather than the actual content. frexy's sounds the nearest - there is no bread involved at all - it appears to be fried onions pressed somehow into a loaf shape -the problems I have is in getting it to stick together rather than being a mess of onions all falling apart - but really appreciate your responses - Barb

sounds a bit lika the Blommin Onion you get in the States
A huge onion cut through from top to bottom then deep fried so it looks like a huge crispy brown flower you break bits off and dunk into dips
Lovely

I would make the bread first by frying a quantity of red onions until golden brown, the when cool add this to a quantity of bread dough, and cook this as you would a loaf. You could make it flat bread, as in Paul Hollywoods cheese and onion flat bread, or like a foccaicia. Hope this helps
