Hi everyone, I've only just found this website and registered. I've been reading some of the comments and messages left on the board and I must say I am very impressed.
So I was wondering if you could help me out.
I am a volunteer youth and childrens worker and run a youth club in my home town. We normally have around 50 6-11 yr olds attend our week day meeting and many of them are keen on learning to cook. I have exhausted my repertoire of easy no-cook or quick cook foods and so I was wondering if anyone out ther had any good recipes?
I would be most grateful if you could let me have some. I'm sure the kids would love it too!

and donta forgeta di pasta! Children love it and it is easy to cook and make. YES! Let them make it! You dont need to add egg to make good pasta in fact most pasta does not have egg. Go on give them a treat, bring in the machine, roll it out, start a production line from start to finish.

Wow!

Some more ideas:

Make yoghurt and let the kids flavour them with their favourite toppings

Make noodles or even pasta from scratch

Stuff some vegetables and bake them

Pies, quiches etc.

Make decoratative shapes out of icing and veg to decorate something that has either been bought or you have made

Perhaps even make lanterns, table decorations etc. out of ice to accompany a theme for the night

My daughter (11) bought a couple of really basic but good veggie cookbooks yesterday from one of the bargain bookshops that appear around the country at this time of year .. they cost 99p each and she can't wait to try out some of the recipes!

Hello crusadertony my 10year old loves to cook so here are some ideas that you could do :-
a simple veg soup with garlic bread
tuna cheese (tuna mixed with cream cheese lemon juice a pinch of chilli powder salt and pepper and diced cucumber) served on hot bread or toast
pizzas make up your own toppings
eggy bread
cheese and mushroom croissants (tin of creamed mushrooms and cheddar cheese put into a croissant and grilled)
pitta bread filled with lettuce tomatoes and cucumber and then packed with the tuna cheese or any other filling.
macaroni cheese
flapjacks
toad in the hole(you can buy packet mix for the batter)
I know some of these might not be practical for a large no but it might give you some ideas. Also try and find a student cookbook they have some great cheap and easy ideas.

Hi, I think one of the best things I do with my kids is decorate biscuits, simple fun and very funny! Just get lots of icing pens, load s of decorations (and small sweets, of course) and let them go wild!!! they stick them together to make triple deckers and make faces etc also messges, ie: mum Dad etc. The younger ones just love the mess and the older ones just love to see how creative they can be - GOOD L UCK!!! Bet more get eaten then get home!

Hello crusadertony,
I suggest the alltime favourite of kiddies... the chocolate coated corndflakes cakes (well at least it was my favourite when i was a kid! Still is!) Anyway, all you need is chocolate and melt it and mix it into the cornflakes and then chill until set! Simple! You can add cream or a little honey to the melting chocolate so that when it sets it doesn't completely solidifies, making it easier to bite into. You can ask the kids to do their own variations, such as adding smarties, nuts, dried fruits, or even use white chocolate instead of dark or milk.
Hope this has triggered some inspiration!
