Alternative to Christmas pudding

Thread Starter: HCB    Started: Thu 11 Dec 2003    Replies: 3

Another Christmas related message!!

Neither me nor my sister like Christmas pudding, mince pies or fruit cake so we are looking for some alternatives. Any suggestions?

Thanks. Helen

Hello H Bailey, try going italian! and try a Pannetone. If you think the bread itself is too plain, you can make it interesting and/or festive by typing pannetone on the search bar above. I like to use pannetone as a substitute in the classic bread and butter pudding. Always goes down well :-)
If not, then that yule log is always an alltime fave!

Last year I made choux pastry (with milk) and then piped into an 's' shape to make swans, bake them as normal (you can do this in advance and then crisp in a hot oven) I then filled them with cream and served them on a 'pool' of mango coulis with fans of mango in the corner of the plate. They were a great success. It was just a more novel way of serving profiteroles, I have since made them for dinner parties as well. Good luck!

Hello H Bailey, i also don't like mince pies, xmas pud or fruit cake. I do cook them for other people.
If i make mince pies i always make some small apple pies as well, maybe with a little cinammon or cloves. I tend to have triffle instead of xmas pudding and cake i usually go without as i'm not a cake person anyway, or make a chocolate log. I hope this helps, i'm sure everybody else will have some better ideas.
