Quince

On 21/09 Micheal Caines used Quince in a recipe. But every time this is mentioned in cookcbooks it is referred to as the hardest fruit to find. As a Quince Tree is arround 70ft tall it needs a very large garden to have one or a friend with a very large garden with one! I have never seen one anywhere here in Peterhead so where did he obtain it.

We have many quince bushes in the garden [Provence] they also grow wild in the hedgerows. The french use it to make jam also a type of cake which is traditional to this area, both of which i find revolting.Does anyone have any recipes, ie chutney .At the moment we put them on the compost heap

I've never been able to find Quince either and would love to find some to cook myself. I found this article, if you scroll down you will find a list of suppliers at the bottom. From what I understand they are in season in October. Good luck finding some.

Hi James; You probably won't find quince as a whole fruit, unless you know of a farm shop that sells it; but you will find Membrillo, either as a paste or a block, in a delicatessen, it is the spanish form of quince. You can also buy a quince bush to grow in your garden. Smile
