Hi 1st time on messageboard, so bear with me please if I'm a bit unclear. Basically I want to know if there's a "rule of thumb" for measuring how much dried herbs should replace fresh if the latter's not available eg dried coriander, parsley etc

giro check again the herbs are in little red boxes and the name is norot. The chopped garlic is a packet (Fullers foods) F Rock chopped garlic. The mixed peppers, onions and mushrooms are all Asda's own make. I have home deliveries and have not had much bother getting them. Good luck. When I next order I will send you the product codes that will help.

Hi again Gloria & thanks for the tips. I've checked my local ASDA for frozen garlic & ginger (Taj is the make) as they're advertised on their website - but no success. So I noted their product number & phoned them. They couldn't find any trace of these products now.

hello again. Well as mad foodies I suppose the art of chopping and dicing is part of the thrill of preparing a fabby dish.I know I advocated the frozen herbs but I also want to let you know I use frozen mixed peppers, mushrooms, onions and chopped garlic. Trust me they are a find. Last night I made a fabby sauce for spaghetti with those ingredients and added in chopped (jar) bevelini chillies ( 2) and tinned tomatos. Now dont assume Im lazy but tea last night was a hurry up one. I do the fresh stuff too and bake every other day. Enjoy. Ive loads of recipes using these ingredients e.g chilli con carne etc.,

hello giro yeap a teaspoon of dried herbs is like a haf of fresh i think but as with every recipe you taste as you go. TIP:
Asda do Frozen herbs they are fabby! I have parsley basil and corriander. little cubes just pop them out a few minutes before serving add to food and stir till disolved they are great. Parsley brilliant for making garlic butter for baguettes or whatever.

From memory, i think it is 1tsp of dried to 1tblsp of fresh. I've never found dried parsley and coriander that good. Have a look in the freezer dept of the supermarket, you may find some good frozen herbs. Or you can easily find tubes of pureed herbs lurking near the fresh herbs usually.
