What's on Good Food Channel

bring back Jeni Barnett and good food live

Thread Starter: Jules1000    Started: Sun 05 Apr 2009    Replies: 14

I still miss Jeni's witty banter with the celeb chefs, the show was such fun. Wish they would at least rerun it. Market kitchen is not a patch on good food live, too serious (when did Jeni ever invite Matthew Fort on the show) I rest my case

I agree with all that has been said and so long after great food live and jenni B was taken from us....bring back great food live with Jenni at the helm..not to mention all the chefs. I never watch this channel as the programes just dont match Jenni.
Can't we at least have the re runs of all the shows....that would surely prove how much it has been missed. Frown

I will add my vote for Jeni. I was one of the first audiences on GFL and met Jenni and she was fantastic. She made us feel welcome. I watch Market Kitchen but I don't enjoy it. It is at the time when I am in the kitchen cooking so I have a TV on. My husband loved watching GFL and he loved Jeni. He never watches MK.

Mr. P

It would be so good to see a return of GFL, or something similar, but most importantly with Jeni at the helm!
It is a great testament to the show, & Jeni that so long after the show was taken away that people are still talking of it & wishing it was back.
Surely, under the new channel banner, a return is possible, and – obviously – called for.
I hope that Ms. Barnett is aware of this thread, & how much she was thought of – I am sure Mathew Forte & Co would soon be forgotten, unlike the show it usurped.
I see the start date of this thread is noted as April 2009 (when the channel name happened?). Recent readers should be aware that is incorrect, this thread started the moment GFL came off the air – early some time 2007 – and it is still missed & a return called for … as I read somewhere in this tread … ‘I rest my case’ !
So, please:

bring back Jeni Barnett and good food live!!

Can I add my vote here, please!! It was GFL (and Jeni in particular) that started my love of TV food shows and got me cooking. It's hard to describe but the show had sparkle, life and was genuinely engaging. I can't thnink of a food show that could quite compare with GFL.

I think Ainsley Herriot would make a great presenter on Market Kitchen,he was on today and i still like him,he knows so much about food and what to do with it.I think Market Kitchen could get him to do some presentations. He is a good presenter.

I think Jeni has moved well on and so had Good Food Live, which is now really Market Kitchen with different presenters. The same ideas of seasonal produce and what to do with it,with guest top chefs/cooks. It was great ot see Jane Asher on last night, thats a lady who knows about cakes. Smile

I would like to register my vote for a return of 'Jeni & the gang' as it has been put here.
I had soooo hoped the 're-invention' of the channel would see her return in some way.
I confess to missing all the the two shows were. Even the recipes seemed better than the likes of Market Kitchen's offerings.
My fingers remain crossed for a long over due return!

I suspect that monkeysuncle is right, but I'm more than happy to sign "the petition" anyway.

As far as food show hosts go, they don't get much better than Jeni B imo.

Her wit and her humour were the tools of her trade, and combined with her knowledge of food, she could cut to the chase within one sentence. Jeni has the ability to stand in the viewer's shoes and ask the kind of questions that a live audience might produce.

So often she would ask a chef: "and why do you do that?" And quite often many of them didn't know 'why' they did what they did, i.e. they just 'did it'.

But no doubt any chef with any sense would 'know why' before appearing on the show again.

I also miss Jeni's honesty - on most food shows the reaction following tasting is invariably: "mmmmmm"; even when you wonder how such a recipe could ever produce such a result. But with Jeni, if it didn't taste: "mmmmmm" then she would say so, and even if the words were unspoken, her facial expressions often spoke volumes.

As we know from past postings on this board, Jeni can have a polarising affect on audiences: many people loved her, but some found her hard to take, and what was magic for some was little more than an irritating distraction for others.

Rather like many foods that have a strong and distinct flavour that some people love and others can't abide, Jeni would delight or disappoint.

I suspect the program makers looked for someone(s) more middle of the road than Jeni, i.e. with personalities that would have a wider appeal. But when the vivid colours of a spectrum are toned down and merged, you end up with a grayness that has the bland appeal of magnolia walls in a newly build house. The effect is bland and uninspiring, but it's unlikely to upset anyone to any great degree.

Even though it has already been said by so may people before, I still remain hopeful that one day Jeni will return to our screens. Smile

We have to face facts folks, no one is listening!! They are not going to bring her back more is the pity - she was a star it was the best cooking programme on any of the television channels. Informative, educational and a great social occassion - Frown

My husband and I would love Jeni to return to our screens, presenting a food show of some sorts, she would have been bril on Food Poker, Taste the Nation or Step up to the Plate.

Please please bring her back and lets have a laugh again!
