Jewish in Golders Green

Jewish in Golders Green

Soon after the opening of the Golders Green Underground in 1907, the area's Jewish population was established. In the coming years two more phases would contribute to the growth of this population: the rise of Hitler's regime and the bombing of east London in World War II.

The area's first Jewish community firmly set down their religious roots with synagogues and schools, making Golders Green an ideal neighbourhood for displaced arrivals from the Continent. The schools have since moved, and although present-day Golders Green no longer holds the title for London's foremost centre of Orthodox Judaism, it is still a vibrant community and Jewish culinary hub.
