Fencebay
Bernard Thain - 3rd placeFencebay farmshop specialises in seafood selling a wide variety of locally-caught fresh fish and shellfish and traditional smoked goodies. Owner Bernard was tempted up to Ayrshire 25 years ago from his native East Anglia and has remained here ever since. Thain is actually a Scottish name and tracing his ancestry it seems Bernard may have been born into a line of Scottish fisherman following herring down the eastern coast to Lowestoft. So a real case of salty seawater in the blood!
Applecross Walled Garden
Elaine GloverElaine and her husband bought their beautiful 300 year old house by the stunning coast of Strathcarron Ross-shire - with a view to restoring the large kitchen garden. It soon became apparent the couple would need to open a tea-room to fund the garden which once had eight full time gardeners tending it. The success of the tea-room surpassed all expectations and now is a destination for delicious local venison, fresh fish, seasonal vegetables and home-made chocolates
Ardross Farm
Nicky PollackNicky is one of a new generation of food producers excited about the change in sustainable farming processes. The shelves are now stocked with vegetables, ice cream, fruits, fresh herbs and venison alongside their own meat products. Nicky's proudest achievement is helping customers to really understand where their food is coming from.
Anstruther Fish Bar
Robert and Alison SmithFish n' chips don't come any fresher than this! Robert and Alison serve only the freshest caught haddock in their award -winning fish bar. The couple can trace fishermen in their family right back to the 1600's and it was this heritage that gave them the inspiration to come full circle and be involved in the fishing trade from net to plate. They insist on using local potatoes and even the flour in the batter is milled nearby. Employing nearly 50 local people, Anstruther Fish Bar is makes a large contribution to a small fishing town in Fife.
