Hi Adrian, no haven't seen the "Chefography", but saw the Christmas housewarming repeat earlier on tonight, I love that one it's so Christmassy!! The one with the two guys decorating the Christmas tree, one of them was the very dishy TR
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Oh Adrian, I have always been very happy with the Betty Crocker stuff, you will need to do some convincing here with your brand. So if you have any samples flying around, you know where I am!!
But the price of Rowse's pure maple syrup has gone sky high! Still, it's worth it, a little of what you fancy.........goes straight to the waistband!!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi Adrian, I'm up to my ears in ceramic Christmas tree and light-up ceramic penguins, they're gorgeous! But have been doing Christmas items since March!! Not complaining though, but certainly will be ready for a glass (or two
), of the red stuff come 6 o'clock tonight. I will be firing my kiln tonight, so it will be a late one by the time the kiln switches off around 1.30 am
I could do with some pancake mix and some real maple syrup!!! aaahhhhhhhh! Scrummy!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi Adrian,
I've got this slightly wrong, I've just looked back and you said Oct/Nov for 5 weeks......so that's why I can't see Ina on the listings. Still, I've now got the wine and Ina to look forward to!
Hope all is well with you!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Message for AdrianB,
Hi Adrian, I had made a mental note that you said Ina was back tonight, got the bottle of red wine at the ready as well. However, there is nothing listed for Ina tonight, what has happened, do you know?
Hope all is well with you

Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Does anyone know if Allegra McEvedy is Jamie Oliver's long-lost sister?
It's something to do with their mouths, has anyone else noticed the resemblance?
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi Azelia and AdrianB, only a few more days till Ina's new series starts........woo hoo!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi Adrian, oh that's wonderful, I didn't hear anything about that, but I'm really looking forward to seeing her back on our screens next month. Let's hope she shows us some new exciting recipes and ways to cook!
Take care!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi Azelia, how are you, hope you're still out there? I have been so busy with work that I haven't been on recently, however, I see we have some "old faces" back again. We weren't try to intimidate you, only sticking up for Ina and her programmes, AdrianB was kind enough to let us know that Barefoot will be back on the 5th October, can't wait!
Hope all is well with you Azelia
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi Azelia, are you misssing Ina as well? Adrian has said when Ina will be back so that's something to look forward to!
5th October is the day!!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi Azelia, been spending all my time working on ceramic bisque orders that I leave the cooking up to hubby! So far, haven't been poisoned as yet, ha, ha! So it's nice to come inside and smell the aroma of a meal that someone else has cooked for you. Will need to get another hob soon, by the time you take into account the £52 call out fee plus the cost of the problem, plus the vat, I'm as well getting a new one. We were told that it could be the regulator or the plate, one of them was £105 plus vat to fix, so my money's on a new Belling ceramic one, to replace the WP ceramic one. The WP one last 8 years, so maybe that's as long as we can expect it to last these days. Gone are the days when appliances lasted for 10 plus years!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi Azelia, how's ya doin'? The kitchen is still ok, just the hob, I would never buy anything by Whirlpool again!
Most of my appliances are Bosch, but have had two bad experiences with W'pool now, never again! Oh dear, the cyber police will remove this now because of what I've said!!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi Azelia, great to hear that you're back on the message board, it's been kinda quiet recently, but so glad that Adrian has told me the good news about Ina coming back in October. I meant to ask, will it be a new series of programmes, we could certainly do with them, my OH is getting a bit fed up with me saying, this is "such and such" and she's going to do "such and such"!!
Good luck with the kitchen Azelia, we did ours a few years back now and the whole house is in a state whilst you're doing the kitchen. I remember having to wash the dishes in the bath!!
Anyway, my ceramic hob is starting to give me trouble, one large hot plate not working, so guess it will need to be replaced very soon!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi Adrian, many thanks for that information regarding Ina's next series, will look forward to that next month!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi Adrian, ooooooohhh lovely, I won't get any work done today if I trawl through your site! I love the New England look, so will have fun browsing through here!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Thanks Adrian, I've got a note of that before the "cyber police" spring into action!
Many thanks
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi Adrian, many thanks for getting back to me. No I don't know how to contact you at your shop, I only know that it could be in Bath?? I can be contacted through my website which is Solway Ceramics, but not sure whether I'm allowed to put the email ad on or not. But can try, www.solwayceramics.co.uk If there is a problem someone will remove this pronto no doubt!
Many thanks!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi All,
Yes, strange, I posted a message two days ago asking about what's happened to Ina, but can't see the message. Where is Ina? We need her back again, my half slot with glass of red wine in hand whilst I enjoy her programme has gone??!!
Adrian, I wondered if you might know. Azelia, are you still reading the posts and are you ok?
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi Adrian,
Great to hear from you. A while back Ina showed us a recipe for Wheatberry Salad, it looked gorgeous, but we couldn't find the wheatberry in the UK. I know I could use brown rice, but perhaps you could ask about wheatberry for me, that would be great.
Many thanks
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Yes, I know for a fact that Jeffery can well afford to have his boat, also, he deserves it! What has happened to all the Back to Basics episodes, have they finished them already?
Azelia, are you still around?
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi Adrian,
Great to hear from you about your trip to the US! It must have been absolutely fantastic to meet Ina, I have never been to the east coast, but did have 3 weeks in the San Jose region of California several years back.
If Ina does manage a trip to the UK, I hope that somehow I can make the trip down south from Scotland, that would be fab!
Thanks for letting us know about your visit, it sounds brilliant!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi Azelia, how's it going?
The spiral-cut ham with the glaze has been on an earlier programme, (I mean way back), whilst the glaze recipe may not be exactly the same, it was very close. But she's still the greatest!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi Sesley,
Welcome to the message boards. Whereabouts in the beautiful Highlands are you, I am in south-west Scotland, not far from the "so-called Food Town" of Castle Douglas! That's a laugh that is, don't expect to walk in to any of their coffee shops and restaurants after 3.30 in the afternoon and find soup or anything else but a miserable scone left. Shocking! Anyway, going off the thread, you're right Azelia, I think Ina is around 61 or 62, my son is 25 and he finds it hard to believe that she is this age!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Oh who cares about Ina's size! Don't we all put on a little bit as we get older? I was a neat 12 when I got married 30 years ago, but all Ina fans love her just as she is!! She's a lovely warm, homely person and that's what matters more than anything. I like the look of her breakfast on last night's programme, might try her cheesey buttermilk "biscuits", although I'm sure it's just a variation on a cheese scone. But she didn't sell me on the idea of making my own strawberry jam, too much hassle!
Ina we love you! How is life with Azelia?
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi everyone! What's going on here, why have they changed things, I immediately went to the last page number, only to see that we now start at page 1, why do they change things? If it ain't broke.....
Anyway, we are about to buy a new barbeque shortly, so will give the lemon chicken a go!
Have a great trip Adrian! Give Ina my best wishes from Scotland!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi cornetto, do you know if Ina added butter to the chocolate as it was melting, or was it just all chocolate. I have added butter to similar things whilst melting it, but I missed the start of this one, doh!!
The concept is fairly simple, but wouldn't want to miss out on the butter if it was required.....ha, ha!!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi Cornetto, many thanks for that, it's really a variation on Nigella's Refrigerator Cake, it scrummy! I play about with all the recipes and add what I like and leave out what I don't like!
Have a good weekend everyone, don't eat too much!! Well, what the heck, it's the weekend, go ahead!
By the way, message to Adrian have a good trip to the US, give Ina my sincerest best wishes from the south-west of Scotland!!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi alc28
I'll check that out, I've got the Back to Basics book, but couldn't see it in there, many thanks for that!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi girls, can anyone remember what the white chocolate with the fruit and nuts was called? I have white chocolate in the cupboard and it's crying out to be used....
Great programme tonight, turkey, stuffing ........ ahhhhggghhhh!!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi girls
I made the Carrot Salad tonight, so it's in the fridge for lunch tomorrow. I had been meaning to try it for a while, fortunately the recipe is in the Back to Basics book. It's gorgeous, I will need to go on a diet after all these chocolate recipes! Ha, ha!
I always make my simple chocolate truffles when my son and daughter come back home, it's crushed digestive biscuits, cocoa powder, condensed milk and butter,(melted together), plus shredded coconut. Roll mixture into bite sized balls and roll in fine coconut or chocolate vermicilli, (or chocolate strands). The coconut coating is nicer, place in little petit fours cases or similar. They look nice given as a little gift for someone. Bang goes the diet again!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi Girls, yes, I also liked the look of the white chocolate with the fruit on it! This would be a bit of a change from the Refrigerator Cake that I have been making recently. I've used chocolate, butter, dried cranberries, sultanas and broken Rich Tea biscuits, a variation on the Rocky Road that's so popular. Then before the chocolate has set, sprinkle with shredded coconut, yummy! All this good food, it's putting the weight on the old waistline!
I liked the look of Ina's Chicken Bouibaise recipe tonight too

Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi Adrian, I am in the south-west of Scotland, so reckon that I could be Ina's greatest fan in Scotland anyway! I can remember a couple of years back saying to my Mum that I looked forward to the Barefoot Contessa every night. My Mum's reply was, "Gosh that's a very old film"!! I promptly said, "Goodness no, not the Ava Gardner film, I mean Ina Garten"!
Anyway, I have found shredded coconut locally in Castle Douglas, it's a Food Town in south-west Scotland and have used that, it's a bit longer than the usual dessicated coconut. Great on top of Coconut Cup Cakes or any cakes, awwwwwww, no don't mention cakes, I have no willpower!!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi Adrian, you've really started something now! Anyway, I think that as I was the first one to comment after you left the message, then it's only fair that I get to go with you!
Seriously though, maybe we could start up an Ina Garten UK Fan Club and organise a trip out there then we could visit the area.
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi, yes, I did watch the first programme, my son bought me the Back to Basics book recently and it looks as if these are more recent programmes than previous ones. There never seems to be too much traffic on the roads around Ina's home, just idyllic. Also, it's great to see TR again!! Over the past few months we have been discussing Ina's love of butter and everything flavoursome in her recipes, the emphasis on flavour. However, the "food police" are never far away, advising us on how too much salt is bad for us. This forum has been much more pleasant since they all disappeared! It's great to watch Ina at home, she cooks what she wants to eat and what she likes and I think that's why most Ina fans love her!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Adrian how fantastic!! Would you have any room in your suitcase for me?? That sounds absolutely wonderful, what a trip, you can tell her that I watch her programme from my home in south-west Scotland and I look forward to her half-hour slot, with a glass of red wine whilst relaxing on the sofa! I would love to visit that part of the States as I've only ever been to California and that was brilliant! I have it on my wish list of places to see before I am too old, oh I am so jealous.
Give Ina my best wishes when you see her, she is such a warm, homely person. Have a super trip!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi Mildredmouse, oh your holiday sounds just wonderful, I would really love to do the same trip and I've always wanted to see New England in the fall, so it sounds an absolutely wonderful trip. Like you, I would love to visit all those shops in Ina's neighbourhood too! I have been to California from San Francisco down to Carmel and the shops are just brilliant!!
Oh, I'm off in dream mode again! Yep, looking forward to Ina on Monday night, glass of the red stuff at the ready and stretched out on the settee, woo hoo!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi to azelia and jenjen24!!
I haven't been getting any updates on posts to the board and thought you had all emigrated!! Ha, ha! Anyway, how is everyone? I see there's a series of Back to Basics starting on Monday, I've got the book, so look forward to seeing something new, or am I being naive, are they still oldies.
I made some scones with jam and cream with fresh strawberry halves on top, now I must start the diet tomorrow! Well, maybe the day after, have just bought clottled cream for another batch of scones tomorrow.
Lovely weather in southern Scotland, haven't seen rain for over a week. Anyway, hope you gals are all well

What is wheat berry?
Hi none160, great idea, I keep couscous all the time, because I love using it with mushroom, sweet corn, chopped red peppers and chopped spring onions or chives in it! All tossed together with some chicken stock. Will check out Ina's Wheatberry Salad recipe and see what else she put into it!
What is wheat berry?
Hi Ina fans, funny thing, I came across the recipe for Wheatberry Salad earlier today, I had jotted it down on a piece of paper about a year ago! This just goes to show you how often these programmes have been repeated!
But I'm xxxxed if I can find the Wheatberries anywhere, can anyone help?
Crikey, they've blanked out my word, it was only darned! What's wrong with that?
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Oops, I meant to send my wishes to JenJen earlier, hope your mouth is healing up nicely. It's so horrible when you can't enjoy eating and you're having to look and smell lots of scrummy tasty food!
I meant to say also, this message board has been so much better now that we seem to have gotten rid of the "Food Police Brigade"!!
However, maybe I shouldn't speak too soon!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi Azelia and everyone else
Yep, still busy, it's been one of those days where I have been trying to do too many things and have achieved very little!! My 25 year old son has just come home, he is making us a chicken curry tonight, so I've chopped the onions and garlic, diced the chicken and he can do the rest. Ha, ha!
I am making bread at the moment, but must confess, it's the pack from a well known store, all I do is add the warm water, knead it, leave it to rest, then bake it. So I suppose I am cheating with this one. But it's pretty good and as Azelia says, the house smells soooo nice with something baking!
Don't think I'll see Ina tonight, shame, but I've been so busy that I haven't been watching her whilst stretched out on the settee, with my usual glass of the red stuff in my hand
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi azelia, I made chocolate cupcakes or large fairy cakes a couple of weeks back, but used mascarpone with icing sugar mixed into it, probably a bit like American frosting. Heaped the icing on the tops and then sprinkled with coconut .... absolutely scrummy!
Now you see, this is the problem .....
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi girls, I missed Ina tonight, been busy as I work from home. That was interesting to hear about your visit to the Market Kitchen azelia.
I ought to back my exercise cycle out, putting on too much weight now and it's not good. I only have to look at cakes and chocolate and I put on weight, terrible because I was a size 12 when I got married.
Anyway, have a lovely weekend everyone! Don't eat too much!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Does anyone remember the Sunbeam Multi Cookers that were out way back? Not saying how "way back" though!!
I started out married life without a real cooker, but someone bought us one of these multi cookers, not sure if you can still get them. But I cooked everything in that, you could roast a chicken, cook potatoes, do scrambled eggs, absolutely loads of stuff. Then we saved up a bought a cooker, but I often think about all the meals that I managed to cook on that thing, cooked breakfasts on a Saturday or Sunday, plus roasts. I suppose really most things that were one pot, plus loads more.
I used to dream of an Aga, then ended up having two fan ovens instead when we re-fitted the kitchen. It's great at Christmas time or if one is being used for cooking lower temperature stuff and you need to cook other things at a higher temp. But I could do with a new tumble dryer now, it's one thing after another, fortunately my son and daughter have left home and so the laundry amounts are a lot less. Thank goodness!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
What about TR, isn't he just gorgeous? It's a shame he's gay, still I just love to watch him, I don't think I've ever seen tonight's episode before.
Good luck tomorrow JenJen!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
I'd would prefer a mixer or anything to do with baking/cooking to a pair of shoes any day!
My big problem is that the more I bake, the more I eat
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi JenJen, yes, I have also stood longingly in JL looking at the Kitchen Aid mixers, but as you say the price tag is way too high! The post I was referring to is above, timed at 1.30 today and posted by AntyH. In fact, I thought that the motors for the Kitchen Aids were quite low wattage compared to the 800 watt of the Kenwood that I got for Christmas from my hubby. I think the Kitchen Aid motor is only 300 watts power, but they're just too expensive. I know that the Americans pay a lot less for them in the States, but that goes back to "rip-off" Britain.
I am sure that cakes made by the Kitchen Aid don't taste any better than those made using a cheaper mixer either
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Heavens, I see they've "blanked" out my word!! Didn't think it meritted that!! The word I used rhymed with "itchy"
Didn't think that was a naughty word
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Message for AntyH
Ooooohh, thought your comment was rather xxxxxy and unnecessary actually .....
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Can anyone confirm what "all purpose flour" is? I presumed that it was plain, I need to get myself sorted out and get these Coconut Cupcakes made in time for the weekend
Have a great weekend everyone!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
I love to watch Come Dine with Me, but what makes it even more enjoyable are the comments that are added every few minutes by the narrator Dave Lamb, he's priceless! I do agree that some of the people are very rude, wandering around and having a right good nosey at other people's homes!
Eh, sorry, have strayed off the thread now!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Good Morning ladies!
Like Zehra's husband, my husband doesn't like food programmes either, if I ask him to have a look at something that's being cooked, he will come in reluctantly and watch for 20 seconds, then say, "Oh, I'm watching something on the hob!" Not interested at all, so, yes, it's great to watch Ina on the settee with a glass of the old red stuff!
Talking about chefs that we cannot stand, I don't really like Jamie Oliver, he's really up himself! Oops, maybe this comment will be removed?
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Doesn't Ina look great for her age? I believe she's either 61 or 62!
I loved the look of that salad tonight!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi Girls, yep, Jeffrey used to work under the Clinton administration! Isn't he a high-flyer, I think he's like a little hamster, all cuddly. Oops, maybe I've taken that too far!!
Anyway, their home is gorgeous, Ina is so down to earth as well. Now, I might annoy some of you here, but there is one thing that annoys me, just a little. It's that little nervous laugh that Ina has, usually just after she has asked someone if they like what's she's cooked for them! You know the one??? Anyway, I still adore the programme and it's getting near 6.30 pm, got me a glass of red wine, so it's off downstairs to watch BC.
Let's see what she's cookin' up tonight!!

Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Yes Zehra, we need more like us, we've had enough of the other lot recently!
I don't think they have any children, I "Googled" Jeffrey and know that he has a really high-flying job, have a look on Google. It makes very interesting reading!
Us BC fans must stick together, make more cakes, and gorgeous home-cooked meals, but if anyone else mentions salt content, or how much butter..... I think I'll emigrate
Got the Cheddar and Dill Scone recipe now, looks good, got everything except the dill!
I really must get on and get something done now, my hubby thinks I'm super-glued to this chair!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Message for Moet1, the ice cream/sorbet dish that you mentioned, was it the one that she made recently with three different flavoured sorbet inside each other? She used a bowl pressed inside to mould the shape, froze it, then removed the bowl, added another flavour, then pressed the bowl inside again and so on? I will check the Back to Basics book and see if it's in there for you
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi to azelia and JenJen
About the Le Creuset pans, I am sure that yours will be be ok, I bought mine 22 years ago from a catalogue and wondered if they might have been "slight seconds"? The rust appeared about 10 years after I bought them and this made be wary of buying any more, but I have mainly Judge saucepans and always been happy. I must tell you a story, I needed one large saucepan to replace my "Ainsley Harriet" pan that I bought a few years back. (They no longer make them under his name now), so my husband came back with a set of Stellar saucepans than cost him £99 in a local sale!! I only needed one pan, so I decided to return them to the shop, because I felt this was really too extravagent considering it was only one I needed. The assistant in the shop said, "I wish my husband would buy me a set" and made me feel really bad about taking them back. But I didn't need another 5 pans over and above the 5 or 6 that I already had.
Azelia, I tend to make more Refrigerator Cake (or tiffen), this is the low calorie version, (of course!)
Honest!! But will get these Coconut Cupcakes made if it kills me ....
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi azelia, many thanks for sending the link for the scones. Think I'll be on a diet before long lol
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi JenJen, yes I saw her doing this with the potatoes recently and had my doubts when I watched it! I bought a couple of the Le Creuset pans years back, I passed them on to my son for his flat!! They will last for ever, but mine went rusty around the tops, I was a bit annoyed by that, but a little bit of cream cleanser got it off.
I love all her huge glass storage jars on her kitchen worktops, they're massive! I missed Ina at 6.30 so will need to watch it repeated at 7.30
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi JenJen24, I took the recipe for cheddar and dill scones down on a sheet of paper weeks ago, I've probably lost it now! However, I will give them a go over the weekend, the savoury aspect will certainly be a change from my usual plain scones with clotted cream and fresh strawberries!! Ahhhhhhh, dream on ....
Ah, I can almost hear the food police rushing to their computers to tell me how bad clotted cream is! Don't even bother, I make these about twice a year during the summer!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi moet1, try www.foodnetwork.com for this recipe, I'm sure you'll find it there!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi azelia, yep, TR is tall, slim, slightly greying and very goodlooking (well, I think so anyway) and yes, you're right about that,he is gay, I believe a lot of Ina's male friends are gay. I think TR was in the Monday programme, I think he drives a little jeep. With regards to him being gay, that's another story, because I dared to make a comment regarding gay men and got a barrage of posts asking whether I had a problem with gay men??!! So, I'll so no more about TR except that he can come to my house and have a drink in my lovely garden any time!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Message for azelia
I' ve just noticed that I seem to have missed out a page of messages! The Indonesian Ginger Chicken wasn't in the Back to Basics book, I'm not sure which book it came from, (maybe someone else will know). But Ina did it on a programme some time back and it was brill, you will get it on the Food Network website, or "Google" it. If you search for Indonesian Ginger Chicken, it will come up with it, give it a try and let me know what you think. I got one of Rachel Allen's books at Christmas, as well as Nigella's, so now they are all standing side by side with Ina's on my kitchen shelf!
Now I really must try Ina's Coconut Cupcakes (I got this one of the Food Network website. I've got print-outs of recipes all over the place, it drives everybody mad!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi Azelia, thanks for the encouraging message and the virtual hug
Things were really getting off the thread recently, as for voyageur's comments that Ina doesn't really know how to cook .... "how ridiculous are your comments"?
Nobody can deny the success that Ina has had over her long career, long may she continue to do so.
Anyway, back to the subject in hand! My son bought me the Back to Basics cookbook for Mother's Day, but so far I haven't got round to making anything from it. However, I have made her Indonesion Ginger Chicken and it was delicious. even my husband who's usually a bit wary of anything that's away from his usual route thoroughly enjoyed it. You can play about with the amounts of garlic and chicken in this one. and the honey as well. Adjust to suit you own tastes, but give it a try!
Yep JenJen24, I agree with your comments about the salt (post above), but no doubt we'll get the usual "food police" coming on with a comment about "too much salt" and we're back to square one!
I was glad that we got to see TR again in a recent episode, I rather like him .......
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Well said azelia!
My son bought me Ina's Back to Basics cookbook for Mother's Day, but I haven't made anything from there, as yet, I'm embarrassed to admit! However, months ago I did try her Indonesion Ginger Chicken and it was brilliant! My husband can be a bit wary of anything too "off the usual route", but he loved it. But I got the Coconut Cupcake recipe off the food website and will certainly try it out as soon as I get the chance.
Will let you know when I try something from her book and report back.

Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Quite frankly voyageur, I think I speak for a lot of Ina fan's who come on to say that they enjoy watching her cook, her lifestyle and the whole package etc but simply just enjoy it for what it is. The majority of BC fans don't want to be lectured, just to be left to enjoy her programmes without the Food Police attacking it!
Anyway, it's 6.30 pm I've got more important things to do now......
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
My dear voyageur, yes, if you look at your post timed at 2.22 today, you will see that you did in actual fact give me advice, right at the end when you said, "That's my advice to you"! I have managed to raise a healthy family thank you, no overweight children, nor husband . They are now healthy adults, so I certainly don't need any advice from you.
No, you didn't lecture me, but tried to offer unneccessary advice, which you don't seem to recall.
No chill pill needed, I am just about to grab a glass of red wine and sit down to enjoy BC along with loads of another Ina fans ...... great!

Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
I'm not against anyone airing their view. Just as long as they're not trying to tell me what I should eat! Look at post by voyageur at 2.22pm .... I don't need voyageur's advice, do you?
This whole thing started a while back when someone else tried to enforce their views on me and lecture me about how too much salt is bad for us. She will know who she is, but we're adults aren't we, so let us just make our own decisions about what we eat and what we watch, but without the lectures!?
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
I don't need your advice, I presume you mean to advise everyone else in general who watches Ina's programme? So we're back to the "Food Police" comments again! I think we're all sensible enough to watch what we eat without anyone lecturing us on what to feed our family. This is the problem nowadays, the "nanny state" telling us what is good and not good for us to eat. So why don't you let us (and certainly me) just get on with enjoying Ina' s programmes without the lecture on what's healthy and what's not?
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
OK, there's a simple solution to your problem "voyageur", just don't bother to watch Ina's programme again, if you feel so strongly about her!
I will continue to watch and enjoy her programmmes, her lifestyle and the complete "Barefoot" package, thankfully I think Ina has more than enough followers.
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi Eyelashes, usually they're on the UKTV food website, but failing that, you can always "Google" them. Good luck!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hmmmhh! Sorry Barshedale, you've lost me now. You're not making any sense!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Geez, I bet you feel better now, getting that lot off your chest!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi Azelia, yes you're spot on there! You echo all of my sentiments entirely! I will continue to watch and enjoy Ina cook in her beautiful home, I love to sit down with a glass or red wine (perhaps someone will now come on and moan at me for having a drink, who knows!!??), it's the best half hour of my evening!
Pink and fluffy (not my phrase!) or not, it's a world away from the horrors and depressing events happening around us at the moment and Ina's programme provides an escape from all this.
Roll on 6.30 pm or even watch it at 7.30 p.m if you miss it the first time around. Ina is so down to earth, which is such a difference from watching other chefs, who are full of their own importance! Won't mention who I have in mind, because I will no doubt get slated for that, so will just continue to watch and love Ina Garten!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Yes, this has been my sentiment all along!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Well said MaryO27159!
I have watched Ina's programmes for ages now and love her easy-going style, her home, her surroundings, the whole package is wonderful!
I have been to San Francisco and all around San Jose area, it's a totally different way of life to what goes on in the UK. I realise that Ina lives up north of New York and the area is beautiful around there too.
So I will continue to watch BC and her whole, beautiful lifestyle while she cooks up more delicious food in her lovely home.
Perhaps some people are just a little jealous of Ina's lifestyle and maybe shouldn't watch her if she irritates them!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Yes Barshedale you're right! I only came on to say how much I enjoyed watching Ina Garten cook tasty food in her beautiful home!
The "Food Police" are never far away, this brigade that like to dictate how we should eat our food. I say, just leave it well alone, we are all adults (I assume?), so let's enjoy Ina's programmes without the lectures!

Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Yes JenJen24, I also came on this website to talk about Ina Garten and how I enjoyed watching her.
But JenJen24, IMO, I thought that the whole point of this website was to air our different views without someone else complaining about Ina's cooking.
I will continue to enjoy her programmes without being concerned about the content of her recipes and am sure many more of you will do the same!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
My son bought me Ina's Back to Basics book for Mothers' Day, I was really thrilled to get it. I don't think her books are too readily available out there, I've never seen any in W H Smiths or Borders Books. But I know that you can get them through Amazon.
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi Maureen, yep, you're exactly right! I want to try Ina's Coconut Cupcakes for the weekend! Happy Easter everyone!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
I am so fed up with people who are obsessed with what's healthy, what's not, Air Miles, Fair Trade etc etc! In today's world what's wrong with a little bit of indulgence and being good to yourself? It's not as if we're eating high fat content and sugary foods day in day out, is it?
Ina always usually points out, that some of her recipes feed 10 or whatever, so where' s the problem with something special every now and again as a treat.
Believe me life's too short and don't we all deserve a treat now and then?
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
God help us, I'm glad I don't share a house with Barshedale!!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi Nick,
Thanks for that, but if you look back at my update for 11th November, you will see that I left another message to that effect and am aware of that, 'twas merely a slip of the ocean!!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
I'm delighted to see a new series too! I think my family are fed up hearing about what Ina made in the programmes, but I really hope that I get one of her books for Christmas this year!
I have Delia, Nigella, Rachael, and Mary Berry........ so just need a Barefoot Contessa book to finish things off!
Happy cooking everyone!
Oh and yes I would love to vist the Hamptons sometime too!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi Melanie,
The same thing happened to me, but I got the recipe off the internet and printed it off. Do a "Google" search for Beatty's Chocolate Cake and several items will come up for it including the recipe.
If you have any problems post another message and I'll try to help
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi Jocasta,
I just said to my husband tonight, wouldn't it be great to visit the Hamptons and check out all the lovely shops and the area where Ina lives, it looks wonderful. Anyway, I must try that gorgeous Chocolate Cake that she made tonight, it looked scrummy!
I really love Ina's "low calorie baking"!!!!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi coffeecake, many thanks for the good news, will be watching next week !!!!
Actually, I've just realised that it's Pacific Productions that do the programmes, not Atlantic Productions, maybe that's why nobody has responded to my e-mail.
I really liked the look of that gorgeous chocolate cake tonight .... yummy!
I think I might be getting a BC book for Christmas this year, this would be great because there are dozens of sheets of A4 paper everywhere with Ina' s recipes on them!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi all Ina Fans!
I sent an e-mail to Atlantic Productions who make the Barefoot Contessa, asking them when we are going to get a more up-to-date series of Ina's programmes. But sadly they haven't got back to me.
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi cornetto, I did a lasagne recently with minced beef, mushrooms, chopped courgettes, some finely chopped red and orange peppers, onions, garlic, finely chopped celery and of course the usual tinned chopped tomatoes. It was delicious, if your son doesn't like mushrooms, could you try finely chopping them? I tried this once with a friend who said they hated mushrooms and would never eat them, he scoffed the lot before everyone else!
For the top lay of white sauce I used a mixture of grated parmesan and red leceister and freshly grated nutmeg, it was brill.
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Actually, I've just remembered watching a chef on TV, who said, you must add the salt into the food before or whilst its' cooking, so that it's right throughout the ingredients. If you add it later, after the food is cooked, you end up putting more in than you would need otherwise because it's only on the surface.
It might have been Rick Stein, not sure.
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi Ladypamala,
Don't get me wrong, I mainly use sea salt, I love it on my roast veggies especially. With regards to the "ready meals", I don't buy many as I am fortunate enough to be a mum at home, family have grown-up and flown the nest, so have plenty of time, so 5 or 6 days a week healthy meals are cooked from scratch. I also hate too much salt, but do like to taste a bit in my food, so really sorry if you have taken this comment the wrong way! I certainly do not overload my meals with salt, but was just commenting on the fact that we now have no choice when we need to buy a ready meal, as we all do from time to time .... get back home kinda late and just want something to pop into the oven whilst we sit back with a glass of red wine and wait for it to cook.
I don't buy ready meals as a rule, wouldn't encourage their "over-priced" and under-tasty food, but do have to use them as a standy-by occasionally when I get back late.
As I say, I am at home, but work full-time from home and cook most of my meals from scratch, but certainly don't believe in over-loading with salt (or sugar).
Sorry, you appear to have taken this the wrong way, I'm also for freedom of choice, but don't think the food companies should be taking it so far with the lack of salt, that's all. Freedom of choice has gone now with most things, let's fact it, everywhere we go, we're being dictated to.
Usually Ina does say, "Yeah, sounds like a lot of salt or butter, but this is going to feed 8 or 10 people, so that's not so bad?"
So hopefully this clears things up.
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hmmmm! I have the opposite problem with salt. I think a certain amount of salt is needed to bring out the flavours and Ina does this in her recipes.
Whereas both M & S, Baxters, and plenty more are reducing the salt content, with the result the food is completely bland and tasteless.
I have stopped buying ready meals from M& S because they are blatantly reducing the salt content of their foods and I now find their meals tasteless!
The Government is on a mission to reduce salt in all our diets, and I don't like being dictated to, I appreciate that too much is a bad thing, but surely give us freedom of choice.
I go for taste, not blandness.
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Yes, I agree, I was going to contact the programme producers, it's on the screen at the end of the credits, maybe they would listen to us if we all contacted them!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi to all of Ina's fans out there! Just like cornetto, I just love to watch every bit of her programme, her home is wonderful, the gorgeous Hamptons and all the lovely shops too!
This is the best part of the day 6.30 pm or 7.30 if you miss it first time around, glass of red wine and stretched out on the sofa, ahhhhhh!
Long live Ina, wouldn't it be great to go out there and visit the Hamptons?
Gosh, I nearly forgot to mention Jeffrey, he's such a sweetie too!
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa
Hi there,
I absolutely adore Ina Garten, at 6.30pm I grab a glass of red wine, then stretch out on the settee with pen and paper and take notes of all her gorgeous, tasty recipes!
None of this fancy "cheffy nonsense" here, just good, tasty, home-cooked food. Who care if it all starts with half a pound of butter, it's flavour we're wanting not weight watcher tasteless meals!
Long live Ina, she is such a homely person, I can't get enough of her programmes! Thank you UKTVFood
What is wheat berry?
I watched the programme with Wheat Berry salad as well Janet, like you I couldn't find it in Scotland either! I tried Holland and Barratt, but no luck!
Will try to find the Suma make that IRNBREWholic mentioned, I live in Irn Bru country!!
You could do a Google for the recipe, but if you can't get it, let me know and I will try for you.
I just adore the BC, I sit with a glass of wine and my feet up watching her, I can't get enough of her programmes.
Keep them coming UKTV Food
Barefoot Contessa
I'm always amazed at how Ina seems to have more male friends to dinner than anything else. She just sits there and giggles her way through each meal!
I must check out her recipe for Macaroni Cheese that she was doing last night, I just caught the end of it and it looked delicious. I have made it lots of times and I know it's easy to do, but just wondered whether or not she had put anything interesting into it other than the usual.
I am going to look for some muffin cases and try some of her muffins!
Everything she bakes is low calorie of course!!!

Barefoot Contessa
Hi,
TR was the rather tall, dishy guy that was on last night's BC. Ina had sent him to do some shopping for the food. He was tall, slimish and greying at the temples, ooohhh!
Emhe.
Oops,
Just noticed EMHE .... Extreme Makeover etc ok!
Emhe.
Hi there,
Sorry, I'm being a bit thick, but what is EMHE?
Barefoot Contessa
Hi,
I am completely hooked on the BC, I just love to watch her cook all that gorgeous food in that beautiful house. The only thing that annoys me about her is that irritating little nervous laugh she has when she meets her guests!
However, I just adore this series and as for TR, well, he can do my shopping any day!
